I'm always munching at my desk, but not anything hot. If the food is too smelly i'll go to the propa eating place, but my sandwiches are 90% eaten at my desk!
Right this minute i am munching on a Kit Kat Caramac.

The only reason so many people munch at their desks, is because they feel that it is expected of them. They're under pressure to work longer hours, and put in more work. So if you created an area where people can sit at a table, watch a bit of telly, read a book etc at lunchtime, it would probably be welcomed, and might even boost morale a little bit.

not allowed to, when i started i got this whole book full of rules etc. not eating at the desk, not putting my coat over my chair, answering the phone in a certain way.... and i respect that - everybody gets along very well and it gives a certain order around the office - u should ban it really!! Curry? I would vomit too!!

I have to eat at my desk everyday since I came into housing, I am only 18 and this is my first job, I enjoy it really very much but sometimes I am sitting here from 7 in the morning until 8 at night just working away, to be honest they don’t even pay me that well ;(, but more or less my working table is my lunch & dinner table & sometimes my sleeping bed.

I try to avoid it as much as possible due more to the fact I hate sitting at the desk all day. On the other hand.....I think it is unfair to make people go to the canteen/staff room/outdoors to eat. Especially those who don't socialise much at work. It can be really awkward sitting in a canteen on your own eating a sandwich. Let them sit at there desk.

That's what the break room is for. I don't see nothing wrong with eating at your desk, but you take the chance on spilling something on your paperwork or on yourself and wouldn't you know it,that's when your boss comes around to introduce you to a visiting executive from another company. What kind of impression will you make with that big smelly stain on your shirt?

I think luncheon at a desk, or not-stinky bits along is appropriate.
The chips and curry.... no I would ban all sauces!

I munch all day.
It leaves lunchtime free to have a proper break!
Very unfair to starve people for 4 hours.

Perhaps you should just ban hot food .

Always...but then I have a door I can close so as not to inflict my culinary adventures on my coworkers.

I can sympathise with your reaction to the curry.

perhaps you could limit work station eating to packaged snack foods and require that actual "meals" be eaten off-site? I would never deprive my work force of snacks on the job....they'd crucify me.

Yeah, we eat at our desks but use our common sense if its something smelly and take it to a rest room or unused office.
