Yeah, I can understand your position. To me it seems, that you are perfect too 'cause you don't want to hurt your parent as well as your b/f.
So the best way is to invite him to the BBQ, if you can't, tell him that the cinema thing can be postponed / rescheduled by a bit and if he is perfect, as you said and I believe, he will understand and respect your decision.
And, don't be afraid of loosing him. I tell you, even if you loose anyone who is totally misfit in your life, it hurts. So try everything possible to keep this relationship with dignity and love. Leave all uncontrollable things to destiny. All the best.

BOTH. you need to loosen up AND talk to him. you never know,he might be feeling the same way.instead of letting him down, tell him the truth and ask your dad if you can invite a friend. if your dad is like mine i would advise you to invite a group of friends so your bf does not stand out- that's if your dad doesn't have a problem with it.

Take your boyfriend to the BBQ. It might be better than going to the cinema.

Get over it.................we came into the world alone...we leave alone.
Enjoy the time with friends and family and be good to yourself and do good things for your fellow human.
Relationships and worrying about losing, cheating...are not productive, if you find that one great person who won't test your limits and loves you unconditionally, then kewl.
Good luck.

tell him the ttruth, that you have to go to the bbq for your dad, he'll respect you more for being honest and not lying to him, ask you dad if you can invite your fella, that way you all win too

It is dangerous when he always pleases you. Find a way to test him and see if he really loves you. Try to argue with him about something in current events or something thought provoking to see if he could decide for himself for a change.
Do you really want to be dating a man who cannot think for himself? Are you that shallow . . . .?
