The Financial Ombudsman deals with claims against insurance companies, their website is http://www.financial-ombudsman.org.uk

Will they really not give you your renewal certificate? The bloody cheek. I'd call Watchdog if I were you.

You new insurance company do not need this information - it on data base that all British insurance company shares. It sound as if you do have some claims history and that the increased risk so hence more money. If you had a no claim history then it would be very easy to show. Your previous insurance company can and will ring up to explain your no claims if this is the case to your new one!

As long as you have a written request, it shouldn't be a problem. They may charge you a fee. You should find the Insurance Council in your area and make a formal complaint. That information is yours and it's not ok for them to deny it.

I WORK FOR AN INSURANCE BROKER AND COME ACROSS THIS ALL THE TIME YOUR PREVIOUS CO CANNOT KEEP YOUR NO CLAIMS RECORD UNLESS YOU OWE THEM MONEY THEN THEY CAN REFUSE TO GIVE IT TO YOU. BUT IF YOU DONT ASK YOUR NEW COMPANY TO GIVE THEM A CALL AND GET IT OVER THE PHONE. BEST WAY TO COMPLAIN IS START WITH MANAGMENT OF YOUR PREVIOUS CO AND IF THEY CANNOT HELP THEN ASK FOR THERE COMPLAINTS PROCEDURE. DO NOT GO DIRECTLY TO THE FSA AS THEY WILL LAUGH AT YOU COMPLAINTS NEED TO BE HANDLED IN THE CORRECT MANNER AND JOE BLOGGS IN THE STREET WRITING TO THEM IS NO GOOD. SO FOLLOW PROCEDURE. HOPE THIS HELPS

Do you have your original insurance certifcate from your old insurance? You could send them a copy of this as and explain that they are causing problems with regards to your no claims.

Go to the insurance ombudsman as well as they cant refuse to send this out. Some insurance companies send it directly to your new insurance supplier.

If they wont send it because you owe them money ( a common reason) the answer is simple, pay up.

If you look at the FSA web site and go to Firm check they will tell you who the compliance officer is.

Another answer is for your new company to approach the old insurer direct

Phone them and ask them for a written explaination for not supplying the no claims record.I did this and I received what I wanted within a week.I think they are being petty because you have changed Insurer. They have no reason for withholding the record. Get them told...
