My 3 year old mastiff/boxer mix can't resist eating the cat's feces, RIGHT out of the litter box! Is there a way to prevent this? I tried putting the litter box up higher, for instance in the cat tree, but it's an eyesore way up there. Is there any special spray to keep my dog away, but keep the cats still going there? Or maybe a special kind of kitty litter! ... That would be nice.

I think maybe the most annoying part is the fact that she grabs the kitty poo, carries it to the carpet, munches on it some, then leaves broken up litter and poo everywhere. I've tried punishing her when she does it, but she's very hard headed...

I think if you talk to a vet they'll tell you that something is missing from your dog's diet which the cat's feces contains [B vitamins] - this would solve the problem long term. Although from what I read below there is a behavior known as coprophagia - which may be what your dog is suffering from. In the second article, it states that some female dogs will eat the feces of their offspring - could it be that your dog views the cat as offspring? In the near term, I would physically relocate the litter box elsewhere.

Then use 2 toddler gates one on precise of yet another! Or placed the cat clutter in a room with a dutch door. eating the cat poop is amazingly consumer-friendly - and disgusting. eating the clutter is larger risky - clumping clutter might want to reason a severe bowel obstruction. you'll by no ability practice the dogs out of this - evade the dogs from getting to the clutter container. If the dogs is larger than the cats, make a barrier with a small hollow reduce lower back in it. If the dogs is smaller or the similar length, then make a platform that the cats can attain, yet that the dogs can now no longer get to. you are able to also make a set of cabinets around the wall that cats can honestly leap contained in the time of, in spite of the undeniable fact that the dogs can now no longer.

Yea.Keep the dog out of it.
I had that problem too.It was cured with a 72 inch boot-lace and an hook screw and a tack.
Litter boxes are in the bathroom.Tack on end of the boot-lace on the inside of the bathroom door and toss it over the top.Tie several knots in the loose end one on top of the other.Pull the door shut leaving it opened just far enough for the cat to go in and screw the hook in so when the string is inserted it leaves the door opened that far.
Either that or get a saw and cut an opening in the door for the cat to go thru.

Get an enclosed kitty litter box, one with a roof and a swing flap, that way the cats can get in and out but the dog will be too big to. Alternatively smack the dog when he goes to the litter tray and tell him NO! and train him not to do it that way. Make sure you empty cats faeces out every day to take the temptation away!

Hehe, “Kitty Litter Cruchies” have the same effect on my dog.
We’ve just put the kitty litter in the laundry, and blocked the laundry off from the dog.
I'd be carfull about repelent sprays... the last thing you want is for your cat to be repeled as well.

There is help. Try looking at your local pet store. There are products that you put into the cats food that makes the poop taste bad. It is a terrible and disgusting thing that dogs do. Mine use to eat poop, I would scold her everytime I would catch her eating the stuff. I never tried the products so I can't tell you if they work. The scolding worked enough for my dog. Oh yeah, the reason I've always heard is that dogs eat cat poop because it contains something that they are missing from their diet. Good luck.

There's stuff that you just sprinkle for your cats meals that makes their poop style dangerous to puppies. Go to a pet deliver store and ask for it. I've in no way tried it I simply acquired a lid for my cat litter box and fortunately my canine has stayed out but i've heard that stuff works.

Not sure if this will help but one of our dogs used to eat her own feces...the vet says to put cyan pepper on their food...it stopped Mikki from eating her feces...Not sure if you can put it on the cats food or not...
Good Luck!
