The best thing to do is to meet with him face to face and apologize to him for the yelling and for loosing your temper. I have a lot of respect for you since you admitted your problem and are now looking for a way to fix it. Just the words "I'm sorry" can be very healing.

If your family member is "very close to you" as you say, then you should be able to pull them aside and whole heartedly apologize. Make sure you say that your "realize" that you were short tempered, do NOT justify your actions, however, admit you were wrong, ask for forgiveness, and state that you will try very hard to keep your temper under control in the future. The best way to control a quick temper is to take a deep breath, excuse yourself from the situation, and walk away........

I have the same problem as you, i have a short temper and I also yell at people when i don't men to say things but do, so the best way to say sorry that i have found is to 1st let that person clam down and then tell them that you are very sorry and didn't men to say what you said. If they get mad at you again then i would give them a little more time to calm down.

Telling the person you are sorry is a start. Take it to another level by asking them to forgive you. Don't try to justify shouting. Admit it was rude and hurtful, express your regret and ask for forgiveness. If your temper outbursts are a recurring problem, admit you have hurt them many times before. Express your regret and ask them to forgive you for those times too.

"I am sorry" is the easiest and the best thing to say.

But the best thing to do is to resolve not to do it again.

Otherwise, lost credibility. No matter what you say.

Probably need some technique to tame the temper.
Maybe see a counselor about it?

Hope this helps.

Go and ask for an apology, there is nothing wrong since you have made a mistake and have accepted. I am sure the other person will understand and forgive you. All the best.
