afraid that they are missing out on something?

I think the ones that come on here and rag on Christianity are just sad people who can't find an audience anywhere else.

I have a lot of Friends who are atheists and yet they respect other peoples choice to believe. But if you just went by what you see in the media or on sites like this you would think all atheists are anti-religion.

Many of them believe that if you are religious you have to be stupid then for they can make fun of them. Some claim they do not believe in god because it promotes hatred, and yet they show nothing but contempt for people of faith.

Hypocrisy has no bounds.

We are having fun in a quite open manner, actually. We do not need religions to have a rich spiritual life., so where are we missing out on something?

Would you be interested in becoming a member of the church of the FSM ?

> Do you think that the atheists who ask questions making fun of religions are secretly afraid that they are missing out on something?

You just perceive some of these questions as someone taking the piss. How could an atheist be missing out on anything when they have freedom to do their own will without fear of damnation? I think the serious questions and the lighter or provocative ones are equally balanced from both sides.

I'd just like to add ... the whole notion of a God that knows if you've been bad or good and cares about it and then to base your whole life on that? That's the chimpanzee part of your brain working! (Frank Zappa said something like that).

Prayer is brainwashing the subconscious to believe truth in unlikely fact. Go read about subconscious on Wikipedia.

I used to be a Catholic, than a Christian, and now I am atheist. I am convinced now that I am not missing out on anything.

Ah, yes. The old accusation of "secretly believing".

Theists never seem to get it through their heads. We react to what theists keep trying to do around us: Getting their superstitions passed into law, teaching dogma as science, and desperate attempts to drive science back into the Middle Ages.

We get along fine without belief in an imaginary sky-fairy, and your claims of us "secretly believeing" in it only serves to irritate and alienate. It would be like me accusing you of "secretly knowing" that your religion is a pack of superstitions. I'm not inside your head, so I have no business saying that. Do yourself a favor and don't try to pretend you have an idea what goes on in my head. You'll get fewer poisonous comments that way.

No, I think they just really can't understand how anyone can believe those things and they are either so immature that they feel the need to go make fun of people for their beliefs or are fed up with religious people being intolerant of their disbelief and feel like giving some intolerance back (stoop down to the level of religious fanatics).

Missing out on self-delusion and meaningless dogma? I'm thankful that I've missed out on that all my life.

No i just don't believe in you're god or any other god, which is my right. I would not intentionally make fun of anyone who does believe though. I defend my right not to believe when it is necessary.

No, as they are filling in the gaps themselves of our questions. Well at least trying. I dont mind for those who dont believe. I respect each one. Of their religion and convictions of life. Surely theyd come around.

yes, there is something that needs filled that provokes them to make stabs or debate in general. If a person is true within their convictions they feel no need to debate and put people down.
