Often the silent letter influences the pronounciation - like the word "know". Without the K it would be now.
Many of our words come from other languages. It's actually quite interesting to look into the origins of words.

My friend do not play with my beloved language. English as spoken and written in England has served me well for all my life! It is capable of poetry of the highest order and accuracy far greater than any other modern language. Whilst ever changing and growing, words become defunct when out of common use only very slowly, thus many can still tell you what a 'coney' is or what 'swapping a hedge' might be about. While it is perfectly acceptable and fully understood that our American cousins often have the simpler spelling of things, it does not make it necessary to learn both. only to read with an open mind. After all centre and center both imitate the sound of the word. Laugh (laff) it off and continue your quest to discover the extent of the beautiful language. It's little quirks and idiosyncrasies are what make it such fun!

Very simple these words came from other languages
You question should have been why does the English language
have silent letters. Why are these letters present in spelling.
They are present in spelling because while they are silent they change the pronunciation of the next letter in the word.
These are questions you must get answered by your teacher.
It is good for you to ask these questions but work hard on your english and you will do well in life.

The reason English has silent letters (letters - not 'alphabets') is because of the way it has borrowed words from other languages over time. In the Latin root for pneumonia, for example, the P is pronounced.

The D in Wednesday should be pronounced. 'Wenesday' is incorrect.

We don't know the answer to that one either. It's just the way it is. But it does often make learning English difficult.
