Its not necessarily healthy for the donor, but it isn't unhealthy either. As long as you follow the Red Cross guidelines for eligibility and how often to give, donating blood has no long-term adverse effects.
Donating blood has more to do with the health of others then it does for our own. Volunteers are a necessity in order to supply our hospitals with blood and blood products. These things can not be artificially reproduced; without donors, none of us would be able to receive a transfusion if we needed it.

If a healthy male donates his blood it can save many lives. I wish i never took seizure medication because then i could donate blood but as is i cannot. Why post a question like that are you questioning the motives of someone you know who donated blood. BTW when was the last time you gave blood?

Some believe that it excercises your body's ability to produce new blood cells. There is some research that suggests that donating blood may be linked to lowered risk of heart failure. There is some evidence that blood loss may help to regulate levels of iron.
You also benefit from the health screening and blood work that is done to assure safety. You are informed if they find any disease or abnormality.

It is healthy for the people who need your blood. And it helps yourself, mentally and spiritually to know that you did help someone. And possibly have saved their life, by you giving of your blood.

It is kinda like recycling. You give blood, your body makes fresh. Plus it might save a life or two.
it also keeps the Vampires at bay for nice sleepful nights.

Americans eat too much meat. Some people accumulate too much iron. Blood donation gets rid of that excess iron, and your body can usually replenish it fairly quickly if you overshoot.
