hi, i am a 20y/o male, i have suffered from bulemia for 3 years now and have the same old lack of confidencee in body image and self-esteem troubles. I am very interested to find out what sort of body appearance most girls prefer. I have lost weight recently, thoiugh want to out it back on, but have the obvious want to not gain fat at the same time, which is where my problem began in the first place, which was trying to put lean muscle on without gaining fat resulting in me becoming obsessed with calorific intake, PLEASE HELP ME!!

Relax. For every body type on a guy, there are girls out there who prefer it.

I tend to go for guys over 6 ft and a little overweight. My last serious boyfriend was 6'3" and 240, the one before him was 6' and 250. My best buddy is 6'1" and 260 and he's just my type... well, except for the fact that he's married. If his wife would just take a slow boat to China....

Man, how sad a society where image is so important to drive people into these kind of problems.

I'm not bulemic or anorexic but I can relate. As a skinny, short guy who eats and eats but just doesn't change, I wonder the same thing often. (I have a rediculous metabolism. Been the same since I was 16 and I mean THE SAME which is to say to shrimp who gets sand kicked in his face at the beach. Food, Illness, burn right through that **** like a hot knife through butter if I was sleeping!) However, its hard to deny the effects of the media as at least influential.

Seems to me the media destroys confidence unless you conform to the ideal (then again, if you do, now you are trapped maintaining that ideal while knowing it will fade - which is worse?)

Here's what I did - I got back into martial arts - not to fix a problem, just because I was missing it and had been gone too long. For me it helped build my confidence in myself and so after a few years, I didn't have to "just tell myself to stop worrying so much" I just wasn't worrying so much.

Girls notice me more now I think, or is that I just notice them noticing? Who knows. All I care about is that I'm taking care of myself first. If I find someone, great. If I don't. Well, I'd would like to but I can accept that I haven't. Perhaps I will.

I'd say stop trying to be the ideal - either you are or you aren't.

I always hated this kind of advice and I've been irritated when I see people write or hear them say they always hated that kind of advice so I can relate to how you are probably going to take this. "Why can't anyone just give me a simple straight answer?" Its because there isn't one. Sucks, but its true.

So... just pick up a new interesting hobby and let the confidence take care of itself. Once that happens, the other problems won't seem so insurmountable.

After all, this isn't really about what girls prefer is it?

"Courage is being terrified of something, but going ahead and doing it anyway."

Women in most surveys go for the medium, muscular build in men. They would rather have a guy with a little fat than a guy who is a bag of bones. Calorie restriction does not help you pack on muscle! proper nutrition and exercise does. You should focus on about 1500-2000 low fat, low sugar calories a day. Eat vegies, fruits and low fat meats like chicken and fish. Drink plenty of water and stay away from soda, snack chips, and store bought baked goods. Start going to the gym and lifting weights, and to keep your body lean make sure you are doing about 25-35 min. of cardio before you lift. Make sure you are resting properly, don't workout more than 4 - 5 days a week and get 6 - 8 hours of sleep at night. It may not be your looks keeping the ladies away from you. If your self-esteem is low and you are alway's worried about how you look, then maybe you are not letting people see the real you! Do things that make you a better person like getting an education and volunteering your time to a charity or a cause you believe in. Vanity only stops those who are ugly on the inside. If you are a good person then let your personality speak for you, not your looks.

Just as men prefer every different size and shape, women do also. So don't let it effect your health.
I am a plus size woman, and find that men prefer a healthy curving woman. But there is always someone for every type of person.
So don't hurt your health thinking that it will help you.
You will find the opposite probably. woman want you healthy. In body, mind and spirit. No matter what you look like.
I personally prefer larger men, with muscle and curves. a small guy to me looks like he would not be a good protector, for me or my children.
Plus it is a proven fact, if anyone gets sick we need at least an extra 10 pounds on us to help us pull through an illness. Just ask anyone who has had the flu.
And anyone dying in the Hospital. A healthy amount of body fat on us, can actually save our life. Our body needs a reserve of calories to fall back on for times when we cannot eat.
So eat, healthy foods, and enjoy life. And you will find an amazing woman who accepts you for who you are, not just for your body. But also for your mind. (I think that is the most attractive part of a man personally. smile)

Every woman's preference differs, but I've always preferred men who are a bit fluffier. There's nothing sexy about a man who weighs less than me. Also, I've always felt that very muscled men look...lumpy...and not in an attractive way...In fact, my boyfriend claims that he's gained 30 lbs during the year we've been together...mostly because I thought he was too thin, so I cooked super fattening meals for him all the time to fatten him up, and pretended to be offended if he didn't ask for second helpings...oh the vicious ways of women...

idk. it shouldn't matter, i think it's better if a guy is more on the "a bit overweight" side than too skinny.
but bein overweight isn't that good either, for ur health.
why are u losin weight?
Eat when ur hungry.
Ask someone for help if u can't control it asap.
Good luck.
