Hello,
(ANS) Monkeys & Apes (primates) all groom each other its a very important part of their social life, its part of how family & social groups bond with each other. Its a part of intimacy between group or family or troop members. Grooming also helps to maintain the dominance of each monkey or ape within the hierachie.
**Monkeys & Apes therefore dont perform grooming of each other for food, but for hygenie & for social relationship purposes only.

if the monkeys let the ticks/fleas/nits/assorted parasites go, they'd all stay riddled with bugs - by eating them, they are keeping infestation rates down.
