I've been having alot of depression problems lately. These are the things i keep thinking of when i get depressed:

1) Life has no meaning, we all live and we die and then we come back again in a never-ending process.
2) No matter what you do, your gonna end up dying in the end.
3) How do we know everything humans have done so far is correct?
4) Whats at the end? How did we get here? Who made us and who made our creator?

Please help someone...this is really bad for a 17yr old.

1) Life does have meaning. You can build meaningful relationships with other people in love and learn to love God. He created you because he wanted a friend.
2) You will not necessarily die. Read the Bible - Enoch and Elijah didn't die. And according to the Catholic Church, Mary didn't die either. And even if you do die, you come back resurrected and live forever.
3) Everything humans have done so far, factually speaking, is not correct. Humans have done practically everything the wrong way and made things more complicated than they need to be. What you have to realize is that God makes things right even though we do things wrong.
4) At the end is life and peace. They are attainable in THIS LIFE and you do not have to wait until you die and go to heaven to have joy. Life is a free gift and peace can be found, you just have to look for it. Jesus Christ is the life.

As an atheist, I respectfully decline answering most of your questions, but number three is, on the surface, pretty easy: Not everything is correct, because not everything works correctly. You know when you've done the right thing because it works.

You obviously have some idea of a greater power, and you are afraid that the humans are not properly conforming to the ideals of that greater power when you asked about human correctness.

If you aren't afraid, read Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged. It deals with these issues in a fictional setting. The first hundred pages DRAG. The entire story is merely a set-up to explain Ms. Rand's phylosophy of life, death, the universe, and everything.

(Which, by the way is another book, by Douglas Adams, from "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" series. His phylosophy is lighter and more compatable with religion.)

Many times, mental illness features a struggle between your sense of TRUTH versus your sense of RELIGION. Fear of rejecting or altering the beliefs that you are told to have (else you burn forever in the eternal fires of hell) leaves you unsure of your standing on issues that perhaps Saint Paul got wrong when he created the early church. If this is the case, then having more than one viewpoint is often cathartic, or cleansing.

I said I would refrain, but let me address your whole question:

#1 - This is a logical fallacy. As global populations increase, the total number of available souls must also increase, provided that each human gets the use of a soul during their lifetime. Not that an eternal soul is the most logical idea in the world. . .
The meaning of life is to live your life as well as you can. All you have to do now is define "living well". For some it is following the dogmas of faith. For others it is wealth and power. For me it is "Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life." That is the entirety of my religion; if I don't find something good or merciful, I don't do it.

#2 - Yep. You will die, but how will you think of your own life? Will it be a sad pathetic existance or a joyful pleasant existance? If you need medication to make your life worth living, then by all means, talk to your doctor.

and, #4 - The end, to some, is expected to be a begining. Generally, I expect the process of dying releases your strongest dreaming self, bright dancing lights, and a humming noise (much like the dentist's laughing gas, which I played with when I was too young and too stupid to know that I was close to dying). Then, you're out like a candle.

We, like everything else, got here because nature dictates that this planet should have humans. Whatever is, is what must be. Kurt Vonnegot Jr. espouses that phylosophy in several of his books, but "Cat's Cradle" is easiest to understand. (Vonnegot is a crazy old coot, but a lot of fun.)

My husband believes the planet had to be innoculated by DNA from some distant life-bearing planet. I'm positive that the source of life is some deep vault in the ocean that is currently turning out spontaneous life as we speak. "Who made us?" is a question for believers, otherwise it becomes, "By what process were we made?" The same goes for questions about a creator.

Deal with your depression. Be honest with yourself. If you cannot break the cycle of thinking negatively, get medication.

I realize the older I get(40) people are dying left and right. Age sweetie has alot to do with it. We're all just passing thru so we should make the best of it. I'm blessed to still have my mom, dad and significant other. Not a day goes by I don't think about death. Them or me. We do the best we can to stay alive. Take a handful of pills morning, noon and night. I used to want to be the first to die so I wouldn't have to deal with the pain of losing someone so important to me. I'm getting more conditioned for the worst. God gives me hope. I talk to him all day. Anyway about me! I've been on celexa for 3 weeks and I feel no change. I stay sleepy, might eat(need to because I'm a 2 month old diabetic), don't want to go outside because it's too bright. Bright means everyone is in a happy mood and loving life. I don't feel that. If I have to go anywhere, I feel I need to put my full face makeup on so no one can see the real me that I am right now. I feed so sad. I think I would bring people down if I told them how I really felt. Oh? Did I tell you I had to leave my job. I had a nervous breakdown. I hate that those customers got the best of me. I've gotten so sick behind this I don't know if I can go on. I just want to sleep my life away. Reality sucks. Please send me some energy. I feel so lost and useless. Thanx for letting me vent. I don't think anyone understands me.

wow at seventeen your thinking way to deep. Let me tell you I
thought of some very detremental things when I was seventeen.
I guess I am lucky to be alive. But the future held out for me.
I lived in a large city. I was depressed. I saved some money up
and took off. I ended up in a small town and the people took me in like I was there own child. I never thought of people caring so much for me. I took it all in. moved on to another town. same thing. Life starts at 17. their is alot of people out there. Do not
frail on the future. Life is what you experience. I wish I was
17 again. Smile, Kick your heels up, enjoy your body, find new
people. do not worry about what the end will bring think about
what today will bring or next week. by the time you get old the
tecnology of science will be so advanced you may live to be
200 hundreds years old. the oldest person on record lived to 950
of course that was in the bible. but now they say in the next
20 years that it is a real possibility to live 200 years. guess what
with science I have an extra 15 years myself. Yippeee kiotee.
cool down yourself and stay away from drugs and you know
unprotected bla bla bla. That is what got me in trouble.
love yourself and start kick your life. keep on keepin on . your friend the dewer

Uh, that counsellor guy is full of ****. Those are not "normal" thoughts for someone your age. I went thru the same thing and still am, so do yourself a favor and find a good therapist and do a lot of research about depression. Sometimes for some people talk therapy can work wonders and thats all you need for others like myself it takes a bit more and I have to take antidepressants.
Either way they most important things to remember is that you can get better and dont let anyone try to make you feel bad for being yourself.

1) life does have meaning...we are offered the chance to do good in the world..the meaning is did you choose to do good or not.
2) true..but knowing you lived a good life will definitely affect how you feel when you are going..
3)obviously humans haven't done everything correct..think of Eve first..but still you are in charge of doing good or bad on your part
4)The end is what God decides for you based on how you choose to live your life. You get there by the choices you make, God made each of individually and who or where he came from isn't important..its the faith you have in God and the faith that God exists that is important.

For adolescents, that is normal. This is the time that you begin to discover what life has for you and what you can do in life. I am not at all surprised. Just stay focused on something you love doing and also something that has meaning for you and you will get over it. The more you stay alone the more you get to thing of such depressing things that have no meaning. All people on earth think of things but you don't have to have an answer for each and every thing. Take your time to be with good company and begin to discover the wonderful side of life. Good luck!

i think about those things too and i'm almost 17.. and i end up with more questions. it is true that we all live and will eventually die. i'm afraid of dying as well. heck. i'm afraid of insects.

but i won't allow myself to fall in depression. why? i have a reason to live. i have my mother who took care of me since the beginning. i have a broken family which we are trying to mend step by step. she took care of me and i'll take care of her.

we only get to live once.. if we are reincarnated, then we do not remember our past life. so i tell myself to do whatever i want to do. regardless of what others may say. i do what is right for me. not for them. sometimes, i am called an atheist esp. now since i study in a national university where atheists are prominent. but i tell them i believe in a God. it may not be your God but the fact is I have one. so you don't have the right to call me an atheist.

don't think about the end nor the beginning. just think of now. it is the most important time. the present is the key to the future and the past.

i'm willing to help you. i'll listen if you have more questions. cheer up!

well, think about the things you like, and get busy living. Depression is a part of growing up, if you are always depressed, never happy or thinking about suicide, then go talk to your family doctor or school counselor. Everything in the media tells us what we need to be happy: If you don't buy an ipod you are not cool, if you don't get zit cream to kill your zit then the girls won't like you. Don't buy stock in bull crap my friend! All the questions you are asking yourself, millions of people wonder about it everyday, not just you. What helps my depression is hangingout with my family, friends and girlfriend and doing the things that I think are fun!!
