Because there is no way you could fit an entire loaf into your mouth at once, no matter how hungry you were!

If the bread is big they have to slice it. Reason could be "sharing" the meal, easier entrance to the toaster or baker & much simpler to apply butter or jam on it since its small.

so they can eat it easily a whole loaf would be messy and hard to eat.although i may give it a go coz im rubbish at slicing it .

How big is your toaster? you cant fit a whole loaf in a toaster also trying to make a sandwich what are you hungry?

Cos if you break chunks off they won't fit in the toaster and it's not so easy to spread the butter etc.

you dont have to but its what weve been taught to do over the years and it looks so much nicer than large chuncks of bread.
