Teens buy promise rings all the time and they aren't anywhere near $100 nor do they have that kind of money. But if you want a diamond, you are going to spend $100 minimum at someplace like Walmart, etc. Also, adults don't give promise rings, nor do they take them seriously. Especially since you say you can't decide on what to get (you want a diamond but you also don't want to spend the money on one), just hold off until you are ready to give an actual engagement ring. A promise ring has nothing to do with engagement anyway. It's a ring that shows off to the other teens that you are taken. Adults don't feel a need for them except for some materialistic women.

Promise rings are for juveniles. You are old enough to know whether you want to marry her or not. If you aren't sure yet, give it a little more time. Asking someone to wait 5 years with no engagement ring is ridiculous. She will be gone by then. Why do you want to wait so long?

5 years before you pop the question engagement?? She will have moved on to someone else by then bucko. Promise rings don't mean jack unless this chick is still in high school. Just man up, go buy her an engagement ring and pop the question......and dont wait 5 years to get married after you have popped the question.

my boyfriend gave me a promise ring during our 1st year anniversary and its almost $400.

one question for you - why 5 years?? thats way too long for a girl to wait...

girls would love to get a big diamond - just a tip.

five years!? many wars could start and be finished in that time span. new mountain chains could rise and decline. new species of plants and animals could evolve in that time. you need a more definite and realistic time frame, brutha. the money amount is just fine, by the way...no problem there.
