i totally sympathise with you. its sounds to me like you have a form of 'alopecia' (hair loss) which is exactly what i suffered some years ago. im female by the way.
this can be triggered by hormones, but in some cases stress. patchy baldness is apparently called- 'ALOPECIA AREATA'.
i would go and see your gp for reassurance/advice about it. tests can be done to try and establish a cause in some cases, normally blood tests.
