Ah, you mean Raynaud's Disease. the Disease or phenomenon is caused by vasospasms and constriction of the peripheral arterioles and arteries (primarly affecting the fingers, toes and ears). Since exposure to cold causes vasoconstriction, such may trigger the phenomenon.

If you smoke, I suggest you to stop, since it may aggravate vasospasms. Also, better keep your fingers warm, over exposure to cold environment may cause blood to poorly circulate on your fingers and toes, causing it to die (which may necessitate an amputation--ouch!). Some medications may be prescribed ask your doctor about them. It may include Calcium Channel Blockers (such as Virapamil, Nifedipine, and Diltiazem) to produce vasodilation and prevent vasospasm, and Adrenergic Blockers to improve blood flow.

Also, there such a procedure called Sympathectomy, which may prevent the ulcerations caused by poor blood supply to a body part by promoting dilation of the blood vessels. Although as far as i know, this is only necessary in less than 20-25% of all people with Raynaud's.

There is no cure for Reynaud's Syndrome but it can be managed with medications called Beta-Blockers. Because this syndrome causes your blood vessels to constrict excessively, it is wise to have this evaluated. There have been some sever cases where the patient has actually gotten gangrene from lack of circulation to their extremities. Keep a diary of your symptoms such as when you have them, how long they last, rate your pain on a 0-10 scale(10 is the worst). This will help the doctor to evaluate your need for treatment. Another thing to have checked is your thyroid levels. Sometimes a thyroid problem can cause similar problems.

You can try supplements or drugs that increase your blood flow to see if they help. Since you are getting that much pain I would consider getting a second opinion on the reynauds. Do your fingers or parts of your hands turn white when you have the pain? If you are not seeing the typical white when it flares up I am not really sure if this is truely Reynauds. I have it and my mother has it although her is undiagnosed. When your extremities turn white that is the classic symptom of it.
