Depends upon which particular christians you speak to they have variations . According to Jesus however "no man needs a mediator between himself and God " .A doorway would be good and for that there is Christ. Jesus and the Christ are two different things. Jesus brought the Christ to the awareness of the world at that time and in other times other great souls have done the same not with the same impact though

As per Old Testament laws, man is not worthy to approach God directly, that is why a priesthood was required. Holy, sanctified men who acted as mediators between God and man. They purified themselves by the sacrifices brought to the temple by the people, and so that made them worthy to be in the presence of the Lord.
Jesus Christ came to be the ultimate sacrifice, thereby purifying all mankind, making us worthy to be in God's presence.

God can not look on sin-He would consume it.
Jesus is our covering.
We are not worthy to ever go into the presents of Holy God.
The blood of Jesus Christ makes us Holy.
Jesus said be ye Holy for I am Holy.
So we as Christians can go to the Father.
But we go in the name of Jesus.<><

Adam and Eve communed with God in the Garden of eden, before the "apple". Since they sinned against God, all flesh is corrupt, and cannot see God or be in His presence, since God is good and perfect.
Jesus came as a sacrifice - his blood was from his Father, and was pure, without sin. The offering of his perfect blood on the cross 'covers" us before God.
When God looks at you now, He sees what Jesus did, and that makes you acceptable to Him.

...No, we are not worthy of Him. God is altogether holy, pure, and righteous, and no sin can be in His presence.
...Romans 3:23 says, "All have sinned and fall short of the glory (splendor) God." We cannot have a relationship with Him because we are sinners.
...Now, sin has a penalty - the wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23)
...God is loving but also just, and must punish us for our sins.
...But He sent Jesus Christ to die for us. He is God in the flesh, and God's only provision for man's sin. He paid for the penalty for all our sins, was buried, and arose on the 3rd day.
...What must we do? We must trust in Christ alone as Savior.
...Acts 16:31 says, "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you shall be saved."
...Jesus said, "He who believes on Me has eternal life."
...1 Timothy 2:5 There is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.

God ordained it that We must come to him through Jesus Christ.
Jesus paid the sin debt for us as sinners so only he is Worthy to except our pleas to god through himself as our advocate.
1 John 2:1-2
My little children, I am writing this to you so that you may not sin; but if any one does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous; and he is the expiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world.
