It doesn't really mean anything. There are instances where they have a REALLY low self esteem or they are depressed, or were hurt really bad at some time and don't care anymore. There are some people that have extremely busy lives and Hygiene is not at the top of their priority list. Then there are people that do it to get attention while claiming they don't want attention (hippies). It varies from person to person what reasoning is.

It means that there are some serious issues being left unattended. The teeth will not only rot out but the infections that could result can become systemic causing other serious health problems. Showering not only keeps the skin clean and hydrates the skin but helps keep the instance of skin disease down. Clothes can and will become safe havens for dust mites if not changed and washed. Usually a person that is withdrawing from social life will discontinue general hygiene. Possible depression could also be the cause of the abnormal behavior.

Up bringing can have allot to do with this. Some people comes from Lazy home lives. Also if the person has been mistreated this can be a subconscious
barrier meant to keep people away,to avoid being further hurt. Then of course the body order brings forth more verbal ridicule so the people stay a perpetual victim. It's sad.

These are definate signs of depression. Could also be low self-esteem. If not, then the person has just allowed him or herself to turn into a slob. They don't care.... Which, btw, is also a sign of both of the other two reasons.

Any person who loses interest in their own personal hygiene is carrying one of the "red flags" of depression. First a person loses interest and/or fulfillment in the social interactions of their life: their friends, hobbies, family. Then you gradually lose the ability to care about anything in your personal life...dealing with finances, eating, taking medications, showing up to work... These people really can benefit from therapy and medication. Not dealing with this issue can lead to serious harm to personal self and/or suicide.

It sounds like a bad case of depression. Trust me, I know from experience on this one. They need help. Not necessarily a shrink but, their family doctor can prescribe something.

I suspect that this person is depressed and may need counseling or medication. It could be a medical condition where he is just too fatigued to do anything, or, horrors, he could be lazy .Mm

It means they have no pride in themselves, don't know what the underlying reason for this is but if someone does not groom they have no cares about what others think.
