I am not a student of his writings except at a fairly elementary level. That being said, it seems to me that his notions were a little mixed up; he seemed to start off with something sound, but appeared likewise to allow his notion of races to get "in the way" to a degree. I'd have to read more of what he said to give you a better answer - sorry.
