At about 3 months old he would meeow outside the bedroom. We would lock him in the back porch(cat flap free for him to go in and out;cat food and milk).Another cat would occasionally come in and he would fight then;again waking us. He has resorted to going round the front of the house now and meeows outside to wake us.if we let him in he pulls at the carpet outside the bedroom. He also hisses at us if we try to catch him when in the bedroom. When we go upstairs he has an obsession to follow us into either bedroom and hide under the bed. Its very stressful and tiring - cat induced insomnia. We have resorted to letting him in the room but he keeps moving and im a light sleeper.
Apart from clipping his claws and removing his voice box(if they have one)! we dont know what to do. If its any help he has a split personality one minute cuddle then he attacks an bites much like a snake; head back then dives in- wild cat!

Yes, making bread, talking, brrr noises when he runs around..think i need to fight(not play) with him at night. he loves water(strangely). This morning he brought in a mouse. I was holding him waiting for him to let go of the mouse and he growled.. is it possible that i could get a priest to perform an exorcism..i think he is possessed by a wild dog or wolf! My girlfriend even bought him a chewing bone..that isnt helping us to say the least. Hypnotise a cat???? Your clever then? Did you read that in the daily sport?

Cat frightened by us? No; he does this whilst cuddling on the settie at anytime...the closest he gets to being frightened is probably when he is asleep an we walk in on him.. he wags his tail and legs twitch whils he sleeps. This cat may well be so intelligent that he knows he can ignore us; get down, get out stop, no...they are just sounds..he look at us as if to say "what do you want im busy" if i want to walk on the worktop or lie on the dining room table i will!
Adjust to his ways?? what? sleep at work?allow him to control and dictate our life..im sure babies would be easier an that is a plan though with this cat he will not be trusted in the room so where will we be then...

Ah the joys of parenting, yes animanls can be a pain in the bunghole as well as a huge joy.
Oh well just shoot it, problem solved.
Do not remove the vocal abilities or the claws both are inhumane.
It just wants to be with mommie and daddy. It will grow out of it.

Kitty is lonely - perhaps acquiring a little friend for it would help - personally I've always believed in having two kitties together. If you can't get another kitty, you may have to tackle the problem from a different angle by addressing the allergy issue. There are plenty of effective treatments for allergies. * An interesting note here - I once knew a person who would visit us sometimes - she was always saying how terribly allergic she was to cats. One day I wasn't home when she came over. She went to sit down, asking my husband which chair the cats never used. He pointed out the one that they always used, and she sat in it. She had absolutely no reaction at all, then or later. The fact was, she just didn't like cats.

We have the same problem!! I am a light sleeper, but my partner loves having the kitten in with us (he likes to think of himself as the dad!) but Jasper (7mths) doesn't sleep long and wakes up to shuffle paper around or attack our hands.
With the door closed he scratches at it and meows so now we leave it open a bit so he can come and go as he pleases - also is anyone home with him during the day?
We've found it effective to really tire him out in the day time, play with him loads, let him outdoors to explore for a while under supervision and try not to let him nap too much. Come night time when you settle down to sleep chances are he will too as he'll be absolutely knackered and should sleep through most of the night.
Hope this helps somewhat, it usually works for us :) Good luck!

You have my total sympathy ..... I had the same problem with my previous cat... I would strongly recommend that you put a lot of ground white pepper on your carpet outside your bedroom.... and anywhere else it scratches. Cats scratch repeatedly in the same place I've been told as there are scent glands in the paws & therefore will continue to scratch there as it smells of them. White pepper is harmless & will save your carpets... when this "aversion therapy" trick has worked you can hoover it up easily. If it's a wood/lino surface use pepermint oil.
The good news is as Moggie got older he settled down & wasn't as manic so he was then allowed onto the end of my bed.
Good Luck!!

Okay you will probably think i am crazy but my cat does the same thing and we have found out why...he is trying to talk to us. Yes, funny as it sounds, our cat "talks". I have only seen this in one other cat we had years ago, and once i started wondering like you what the problem was , i noticed he did it at other times too and not just at night. It happens if he feels he isnt getting enough attention in the day, usually after a big fat old nap. He wakes up kind of like a baby and wants love, fresh food and water and then played with. After that he usually goes back to bed.The night time thing was a horrible annoyance to us as well. He likes to go into my daughters room, he can scratch at the doors underlying carpet to open her door!!, and wakes her up with his "talking". She loves him far more than me at 4am, so she gets him a kitty treat and his teddy(with cat nip) and rubs his belly. Sometimes he is very picky and wants his left over cat food thrown away (SPOILED!!) and wants fresh. Most times he wants a belly rub and he goes back to sleep. The clawing thing, our vet told us, is a way of sharpining his claws, or trying too, and also a way of releasing his scent through his glands in the paws. He is kind of marking us and our house with his scent glands. You could get your kitty a scratching pad and a kitty climber. If you have room, set him up his own area with all the fixins and then maybe he will let you sleep. We use to have a large fixed up basement that was our "cat center". But if this is just in your kitties personality to be with you and pester you, get some sleeping pills....for both of you :O) Hope this helps. Our cat is just another human in the house, although he would be offended by that remark !! :O)

thing is this is a cats nature, its actually doing everthing it should apart from turning on you ,it will only do that if hes been frightened by you or your partner ,,,when he do this hes feeling unsafe ,,maybe you should let him go to another home ,,,he senses that you are angry with him ,they are very inteligent ,more so than most humans ,and bless his little heart brining you things hes caught it providing for you ,showing he loves you ,,and he will fight with other cats its hes territory hes protecting ,,and him wanting to come in with you is just another way to say he loves you and want to be close to you ,but cats are night animales ,they doze all day and hunt at night ,,,so you may have to learn to adjust to his ways ,after all he is a wild animal that you are taming,,,,cats like quiet and calmness ,and no sudden movements ,try this around him and he may stop having a go at you lol

Your cat sounds exactly like my crazy cat. Besides being addicted to the smell of Ben gay, he also likes to cuddle for one minute and when you put him down,( because he wants to), he bites too. Head back and pounce. We use a spray bottle filled with water. NOW every time he sees us reaching for that bottle when he misbehaves, he runs. He also wakes us every morning @ 4 am. He hears the coffee pot start and he meows at our door. If we ignore him, he knows how to turn the door nob. We even tried not putting the coffee pot on automatic start and he still wakes us at the same time every day. He follows us in the bathroom, and sits on the rug until we are ready to leave. Please don't get rid of you crazy cat, you're not alone. We still love this animal to bits. All our kids are grown and moved away. It's like having our teenage girls back again in the form of a cat. Good luck, and thanks for making me laugh!

I had a similar problem years ago. Thing that sucks is that cats are primarily nocturnal - add in a needy disposition then you have a situation like yours...
Sadly, I ended up getting rid of the cat after trying EVERYTHING. I sent him to a farm where he lives happily as a mouser cat now.

My kitten is awake 23 hrs. of the day pouncing on heads and biting at toes wheather you're awake or not. What helps me is if i play with her for awhile before bedtime so she's wornout. Also fabrics that make my kitten "make bread" can also help her to relax and fall asleep eaiser.
