This land of India is famous for gurus and babas. Anyone wearing ochre robes with long hair is reverred and respected, irrespective of what he preaches. People are just dumb crazy. No matter how many news articles are written about thier misdeeds, people still flock to these fake babas and gurus. In the same way, people are still there to go for the Nigerian or British Fraud, because they don't think with thier minds. Just follow like sheep.

The perpetrators of this fraud are smart enough to vary the pitch and those who fall for it are dumb enough to buy the pitch in some form.
Personally I think these are funny as long as you have the sense to read and delete them. Every now and then I will throw them a little reply to see what happens, but I would never send them the information they are asking for.

Some people are too trusting. Someone tried to scam my wife a while back. After visiting a charity website someone contacted her claiming to be dying from cancer and wanted to give 6 million dollars to charity. He claimed he would transfer the money to her bank account and let her choose which charity, because he couldn't trust his own family. She stopped responding to his emails before he asked for her bank account number, but she knew that's what he wanted.

Greed, mostly. And the fact that many people are quick to accept something, though they know it's too good to be true. And lack of education and research

Because no matter how ridiculous it may seem, humans still hope to grab the brass ring, even when it is too good to be true.

For the life of me, I don't know. Maybe the "something for nothing" mentality.
I laugh every time I get one of those emails, wondering if anyone could *possibly* still be falling for it. I guess so.

It's true that otherwise intelligent people have fallen for it. It's equally true that you can't fool an honest man. The conclusion is obvious enough.
