As even our government has been overcome with greed, corperation have also. Instead of making a good printer and selling it at a fare price corperate america has decided to milk the lilly by reducing th cost of printers to consummers, making inferior printers then pushing the sells of the printers at low prices. Then they produce printer cartridges at a inflated price. Which the customer will have to buy and they have the patent. So the end result is heaps of old printers in the dump. More trash and more profits.
This is called engineered product dependence. To over come it get a laser printer and do your printing on it and then have a local shop fill the cartridges.
This has also happened in the automotive sector. And all manufactors are now doing that to increase profits. This is a dishonest bussiness practice and it is unethical. So I use older high quality printers and do not buy anything other then laser printers. Cheaper per copy and they last for years.
This is the same reason you have different computer chips each year or two. Manufactors want to sell products. They have to creat a market for the useless products they are creating so they have to make the current products outdated. The best way is to make them backwards none ingratable. It means they will not work with the new stuff. Example a A drive is still a A drive but wait the new computer motherboard does not have a A drive sensor. So you have to buy a A drive with a on board sensor. That is not a accident. It was designed into the manufactors plans for you buying a new A drive. This adds up if you are selling millions of A drives. And that is the game in a nut shell.
PS: I once worked for the computer compaines doing this every day all day.
Here is another example TYSON foods in order to increase profits socks it chickens in a red water chiller for up to 48 hours so the bird will take on water. This adds weight to the bird and cost to the consummer. So you are paying full bird weight for the price of the chicken that is 5 to 9 percent water. Just another american ripe off. Unethical
At TYSON food they also use a spirol freezer to sprinkle birds with ice cold water to add ice weight to the pry weight bird. Just another american rip off.
Maybe i should write a book on all the stuff compains are doing to lie, cheat and steel from there customers.

They sell the printers dirt cheap, then make up for it for the life of the printer by selling you over-priced cartridges.

You are far better off buying a laser jet printer with a cartridge that will last you four times the life of a deskjet cartridge.

Profit. The printers are relatively inexpensive and there are so many choices but the cartridges are a necessity. I paid 49.00 for a printer and the refill cartridge is 55.00. Profit.

Retail stores make between $3 and $20 profit on the printers, though they usually don't include full ink cartridges. The margin is all in the ink, some retail stores make most of their daily profit from them.

Cartridges--especially new ones--are expensive. They can make a printer almost as cheaply as they can the cartridge.

Try checking out various companies that recycle cartridges. Some of them are quite good.

So they can screw the public more.

I buy mine thru HP and it is the same price as if I buy it at Walmart, only HP don't charge shipping and handling on ink or paper, and I don't have to drive 70 miles to Walmart, when HP will send it to me and I get it in 2 days. SO I don't have to pay for the gasoline.
