Along with the avoiding unprotected sex, sharing needles and casual sex, try not to come in contact with other people's blood and body fluids through fights or open wounds. Always wash your hands and wear gloves if you are helping someone with an open wound. Don't get in any fights, better to turn and walk away, it's healthier all the way around. And don't have unprotected or random casual oral sex either.

Step 1, avoid intercourse with someone with the disease.

Step 2, avoid casual intercourse with someone you might not know that well.

Step 3, test yourself and your significant once you decide that intercourse belongs in your relationship.

Don't be promiscuous, don't sleep with people unless you KNOW they don't have AIDS (they've been tested, they're your spouse, etc). Frankly, I prefer celibacy to death but, hey!, that's just me.
