So there is tthis girl i like she is 18 and I am 19. I really like her. But the thing is she is away at school and i cant see her in person unless i drive up there. Is it alright to ask her out online?

Have you ever been out with her before? If so, then call her up and ask her out, then drive up to where she is.
If not, then call her up and ask her if she'd be interested in dating you if you came up to see her. She might not be too pleased if you just appeared at her doorstep with the expectation of taking her out.
Don't ask her on line. It's too impersonal. The very least you should do is talk to her personally.
Another way of letting someone who is at a distance know that you like them is to write a letter. I don't mean an e-mail, I mean an actual handwritten letter, on good quality stationery. It may seem old-fashioned but it will show that you have some class.

I wouldn't advise it. It's better to do it in person and see all her reactions. Her body language would be the truest response which you won't be able to see online.
