The key is to keep it from any air and very cold, and to freeze it as quickly as possible.

When I get chicken I put it first into sandwich size portion bags and suck out all the air, then I put all the bags in a heavier freezer bag before freezing. If you get all the air out they will never freezer burn, and since the bags themselves are separate and dry they will not freeze badly together.

How long can meat keep frozen and still be tasty? People have found frozen mammoth that has been so for 20,000 years and it was still good. Also food caches in the Antarctic have kept for 50 years and more.

For myself I have a deep freezer, and when food is double bagged as above, I cannot distinguish what had been there for a couple of years from only a few weeks. If it open to air it will freezer burn in weeks. As chicken is episodically very cheap at the store, I do this with chicken especially.

If the chicken comes with wrap already I usually cover it in tin foil as well to prevent freezer burn. Freezer burn will show light brown spots on the skin of the chicken. Although it won't hurt you it's best to add something that will give it a kick such as a glaze before taking it out of the oven.
Chickens and other meats can be left in the freezer for up to 1 year. If it's in there 2 years it's still OK to eat, but it may be tasteless.
Also, you can defrost chicken, cook it well and if you have any left over you can re-freeze it. This applies to roasts, and stews.

Keep it in the freezer for at least -18 then it would last for a year.

About six months. Technically you could go a year, but it depends on the quality of your freezer and the packaging.
