Can anyone find a Scripture verse identifying any of Jesus' "brothers" and/or "sisters" as being a child of Mary and not of a previous wife of Joseph?

So far no one has been able to find a verse identifying Jesus' mother as the mother of anyone else, even though other women are identified in the gospels as being the mother of a specific person or persons (such as the mother of James and Joseph, the mother of James and John, the mother of James the younger and Joses, the mother of John the Baptist).

Perhaps I haven't been clear. Most of you have posted verses referring to Jesus' brothers and sisters. I am already aware of these verses. What I am asking for is verses stating that they are specifically the children of that particular Mary, and not of another woman. It is claimed the teaching of both the Catholic and Eastern Orthodox Churches that Mary never had other children goes against the Bible, so I want to see the verses that say she is the mother of other children.

A few have asked about where I got the idea that Joseph already had children. This is a belief of the Eastern Orthodox, and is found in early Christian writings such as the History of Joseph the Carpenter, the Protoevangelium of James, and the Panarion.

is there any scripture about Joseph being married, from where u get this idea. bring evidence, why u believe so.

In the bible there is verses speaking about Jesus brothers there is something u need to know about the culture brothers can be taken as brothers or as cousins

it doesnt matter if the virgin mary who is married legaly and infront of God and society continued in her life and live normaly, she has all the right to do so.

the only thing is matter that she lived according to God well. which i hope i will live like her in God's well.

And by the way, i am Jesus sister, He is my eldest brother.

check the following verses and let the bible explain what in it

Mat 12: 46, Mat 13: 55, Luke 8:19, John 2:12, John 7:3 - 10

i was watching a history channel special on the life of jesus. Apparently, in some translations of the bible, Jesus is said to play with his "brothers and sisters" As far as i know the catholic translation of this is his friends in the village.
No the program didnt mention anything about Josephs previous wives. It brings up an interesting point though. I figure if Joseph had previous wives it would have been mentioned somewhere in the bible or in 12 years of religion class.

It doesn't matter whether Mary or Joseph had other children or not. This is what people get stuck on little details which has caused division among the churches through the centuries. People miss the mark bc of little minute details that they dwell on and disagree on. Such a waste of time where we could have been praising the Lord. This is where everyone has fallen into satans trap and satan has a field day with all the arguing & bitterness. Jesus is unity, love, joy, & peace etc...etc...etc...
Have a blessed day my friend.

Check out Mark 6:3 which reads as follows: Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and of Juda, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended at him. (KJV)

So many people seem bothered to think that Jesus had any inkling of humanity to him... but it is his humanity that makes him the perfect sacrifice for us... because he was human and was able to conquer the human condition: sin.

I recognize that a lot of people center on the immaculate conception of Christ... as well they should... but there is nothing given in scripture that could possibly make us think that Joseph and Mary did not eventually consummate their marriage. Remember: Christ was divine, Mary was a chosen vessel. That does not preclude her from being a mother to other children.

Mary was betrothed to Joseph, probably an 'arranged" marriage. She was most likely 13 or so; and this would have been the first marriage of BOTH parties. usually a large family was encouraged - see below.

Mar 6:3 Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and of Juda, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended at him.

It is less likely to believe your hypothesis about a 'second" marriage than it is to read the scripture as it is written.

I believe James and Jude are rather commonly thought to be brothers of Jesus. There are references to them as brothers, but what isn't known is whether this was a sign they were actually related or simply the reference to common humanity.

I believe in one of the gospels there is also a reference to Jesus having brothers. Unfortunately I don't have my Bible handy to look them up.

There is no reference that I am aware of that Joseph had other or previous wives, but you can't rule them out.

Matthew 27:56 Among which was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James and Joses, and the mother of Zebedees children.

Mark 6:3 Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and of Juda, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended at him.

Let's talk about scripture for a second. Is there any remote chance that over thousands of years, hundreds of languages and thousands of revisions in the scripture itself - that SOMETHING could have been lost in translation?

There are those who claim that certain books to the old and new testaments were excluded and/or removed over history for various reasons.

So the quandry that exists today is that the people who believe in scripture and nothing else won't believe that anything may have been altered or excluded from the Bible because they are to to blinded by the version of the bible that they have relied most of their lives - it is a vicious circle.

"If it isn't in the Bible it could have NEVER existed, because the Bible is the FINAL word and authority..."

And I am sure that I am making no sense whatsoever. Rumor has it that Jesus had a handyman brother named Cletus...
