The better question is how much will it cost... To be an airline pilot, you will need tons of flight time, all your ratings, and a college degree. Then, you work your way up to the airlines. If you have about $300,000 you can afford to become a pilot thats up to airline standards... As far as how long it takes, at least 4 years (college). When I found out how much it costs, I decided to work on them instead.

If your in america you dont have to have a college degree, dont know where that guy got that. It can cost anywhere from 30 to 50 grand depending on where you go. Technically you can be an airline pilot after you get your 200 hours in but no one hires inexperienced pilots like that. After you get your license youll most likely be an instructor till you get about 1000 hours then you can get a job flying for companies like ups, fedex, etc. Doesnt make sense that the instructors are the most inexperienced does it? Ive read several books about it and done a lot of research on getting a pilots license but it boils down to is just too damn expensive for me.

You should go for privet pilot first and then go comercial because the more you gain on light aircraft the better your chances of flying an airline
