If you're talking about 'laughing gas', that's a mix of nitrous oxide and oxygen, and it's a very safe form of inhaled sedation. The gas is absorbed quickly - within 15-20 seconds, and eliminated from your system within a few minutes of stopping the inhalation. You can't be allergic to it, and there are very few medical contra-indications to using it. It's the same as the 'gas and air' used for pain relief during labour, although the relative concentrations of nitrous oxide and oxygen may differ.
The usual side effects are dizziness and a light headed feeling, and occasionally nausea, if a high concentration of nitrous oxide is used, and a small number of people notice almost hallucinogenic effects, but again, these are entirely temporary.
Don't worry, you won't suffer long lasting ill effects, if you have to have it again, explain your side effects to your dentist, and they will titrate the mix to offer you a lower dose of the nitrous oxide.
The only way a dangerous dose can be give is if there is no oxygen in the mix - and that's not possible due to the safety features inbuilt in all modern machines, specifically to prevent overdose.
If you really don't like it, you could ask for iv sedation.

You can't suffer major problems from dentist gas. It is a common anaesthetic.
Nitrous oxide is also harmless.
It will be regulated and mixed with regular air to ensure that you have a very precisely dosed mixed entering your blood stream.
Nothing can happen, nothing will happen. It is highly routine, highly safe and very precisely administered.
Nothing to worry about.
The sickness and light-headedness are common side-effects of anasthetics which are so commonly felt to be considered normal. The problem is that your inner ear becomes desensitised in relationship to your vision- your brain gets confused by the two contradictory messages and you feel ill.
The ill feeling is your bodies response to sit down, rest and recover until the brain can make sense of everything again.
Nothing to worry about.

The gas is nitrous oxide and in small doses it is a lot of fun, however too much of it can make you black out and there has also been death associated with over consumption.
The main danger using a medial tank and mask is if you strap the mask on and then pass out, you cannot remove the mask and breath normal air again.
Like all drugs, using nitrous oxide in the company of others is recommended.

Its not the Nitrous Oxide and Oxygen that is dangerous,Its the solvent anaesthetic Halothane that is mixed in with these,It smells like dry cleaning solvent,Its that that puts you to sleep and has to be precisely monitored.also Nitrous is dangerous without a good mix of Oxygen with it.The Halothane is mixed in with the 2Gasses in a vaporiser in the Gas machine(Anaesthetic Machine)Hope this helps with your question!
