Check along with stuff you unpacked from your last trip, I found mine next to my camera when I faced a similar problem

Always where you least expect it. Or, you need to empty the entire drawer and closet contents. In the past, I have also scared myself by 'misplacing' my passport and other government id. I usually find it when I take my place apart the second or third time - and found that I had zipped it up in a small compartment in my suitcase which I was storing in the closet. Or, had shoved it inside some papers in a drawer. Good luck, and don't give up!

Check the place you normally keep it.

Try and remember the last place you had it.

Try and ask some who may know (like someone you live with, travel with, or your Mum)

Check old suitcases etc

If all the above fail then start searching the house top to bottom.

Apply for new passport.

Its on top of the fridge!

You come home from a long flight, open the door - what's the first thing you do? You walk up to the fridge, grab a beer or water (place your passport on the fridge) and then promptly forget about it for 6 months.

How do I know this? I lost my passport once and this was my story.

Check - its there!

Pull your drawers out and look behind them - sometimes things get caught when you close the drawer above - particularly when the drawer is over - full.
Consider asking someone else to check places you have already looked - because sometimes when you are panicking you will over look it.
Just some ideas - good luck!

How about in whatever place you keep other things like birth certificates, insurance papers, mortgage papers, etc? Do you perhaps have a safe deposit box in a bank where you might have put it?

If that doesn't do it - check the cookie jar...

Check your suitcase or carry on luggage from your last trip. Perhaps you may have also put it in the inner pocket of the coat or jacket you were wearing.

Try your underwear/sock draw...why not?

It's right over there!

JK- Have you checked your underwear/sock drawer, breifcase, suitcases, carryon bags, bookshelves, couch cushions, top of the refrigerator, top of the microwave, entertainment center.

Don't worry it will always be in the last place you look.

When did you lose it? Trace your movements back until when you last remember having your passport. Relax, take some deep breaths, and visualize. That's usually how I find misplaced things.
