It's the middle of winter, the best way to cut it is not for a few months!

Well, you don't say what kind it is, but take it to a dog groomer and ask for a puppy cut. They will kind of cut it all over and it kind of looks soft and scruffy when they are done.

contact a groomer and i would suggest that do not do any such thing on the pup in winters...

bring it to a groomers, or buy hair shaver for animals.
