Oh yeah Favordby.. that reminds me I love my grandparents coin collection too. It had turn-of-the-19th-century dutch coins from when they immigrated. And it had lots of Morgan silver dollars and peace silver dollars.

I love all the answers. I can't choose a best on this one. It's nice to see how these heirlooms connect people to their family. Thank-you very much for sharing the wealth! Will let the community rule on this. :-)

My grandparents were married in October 1937 and i have a Brides magazine from Fall 1937. it is really cool and it is so interesting reading the articles from that timeframe.
My great grandmother passed away from a heart attack and my mom has the purse she was carrying the day she died with all of the original stuff still in it. (She passed in 1932) It is leather and is exquisite in craftsmanship.
My sister has my grandmothers mink. That was such a status symbol in their day.

Stories told by by my relatives about their lives. Some were immigrants from Ireland, indentured servants, others were share croppers & moonshiners. One gambled with Diamond Jim Brady and won a diamond stickpin shaped like a question mark. The question mark reminds me to think of what kind of person I want to become. I am the only one who has the answer.

My father's pump organ. It is ornately carved and if the mice haven't eaten the bellows out it still works. It is a 2 piece organ that the top comes off and allows it to be easily moved-as easily as something of black walnut or similar wood can be moved. it has beautiful carvings and the origional fabrics in the top.

My favorite heirloom is what we call the "Black book". Although we still don't have it. My uncle said that it was my great-grandfather who used it the last time it was seen. It is also said that only the person who is worthy to receive the book can see it.

My grandmother's photos and the family history that she passed on to me. Now I have written down most of it and stored it for future generations. It was fun sharing that time with her and letting her share her life with me. Her love means more to me than all of the rest of the heirlooms she could've given to me......

I think that would be my Grandpa Fisher's mayor's badge from when he was mayor of the town I grew up in. That and his ability to tell stories, which is were I got the talent for writing.

My grandfathers old desk-chair. . .
(genuine wood-swivel chair from the laboratory of U of T)
P.s-apparently they discovered Parkinson's' disease while sitting in this chair (not sure), . . . I'll have to ask around now. . .
: )
