I accidentally saw something like a board with a few big holes in the kitchen!

To measure pasta like angel hair or vermicelli the strand type compared to elbows or zitis. You can purchase that plastic or wooden board with the different holes in it. It's made to use for getting the right size for different servings of pasta. I usually get a pound package and for two of us I use half the package. It really depends on how much each person can eat. If you don't know for sure cook the whole pound. You will need a very big boiling pot, fill with a lot of cold tap water but leave enough room for the water to come to a boil. Then add salt and when it boils hard drop the pasta in stir with a fork and cook for the time mentioned on the package> The thinner the pasta the less time. You want for it to have a slight bite. :"al dente" ...not mushy when finished cooking. I never rinse the pasta or it loses so much good taste. I then pour the pasta into a colander and quickly drain it and then add it to the red sauce. Or you can mix butter and olive oil together with some fresh basil or parsley and serve it that way. Being Italian and eating pasta very regularly I never have leftovers...best wishes to you for 2007

You can probably find a fancy board like that at Wiliams & Sanoma or the like. But you don't really need it.

I make a circle with my thumb and forefinger ('okay'). I find that the amount of spaghetti I circle inside my fingers is the all the more I want to eat.

You don't need that pasta measuring thing if you have a kitchen scale. 2 oz. of dried pasta per person is a healthy portion. Restaurants however serve more like 8 oz. per person.
