The 22 Rim fire in the past and still today is a weapon of choice for many military and civil law enforcements agency’s for covert operations the world over.
The US Military in Vietnam had 2 models both were Silenced Semi Auto Pistols manufactured by High Standard the other by Ruger.
The weapons were used by special operations to neutrals enemy in many areas of the theater of combat.
The teams were taught to place two round to the head of the enemy.
one shot was sufficient to kill the next shot was cheap insurance.
The Israel Special Forces prefer it for hostage situations or room to room search operations.
The British SAS have employed the use of the 22 semi auto pistol as well with their special operations.
Just some of the reasons for it’s popularity Easily Silenced, very lethal, recoil does not blow you off target allowing a quick double tap to the head.
You don’t wont shot by one at any range.

How deadly is a .22 caliber bullet to humans? It will kill you dead. Even .22 rat shot has been known to be fatal to humans. The .22 normally has just enough power to enter a person's torso, then ricochet all over the place within, wrecking all kinds of havoc to the internal organs. Just so you'll know a .22 is nothing to fool with, the worst shootings I have ever heard of involved .22 pistols. A couple of years ago a guy was gut shot with an RG-22 (a cheap, snub-nose .22 revolver). At the hospital they couldn't find an exit wound and the bullet was not in his stomach/torso. He complained of a 'heaviness in his scrotum;' guess where the bullet was!
Twenty-two pistols are plinkers or guns to shoot snakes with at best. For defensive purposes use something bigger.

Depending on where it hit you it can be deadly or just painful. A shot to the heart is deadly no matter the round size, where as a .22 could go through you gut and miss all vitals. Though I've heard some hitmen for the mob Used them in the old days cause they'd go in a skull and bounce around.

There have been more people killed with .22 rimfire weapons than any other civilian firearm. The only others which have killed more are military weapons, and that's only if you consider ALL weapons of ANY caliber ever fielded by EVERY nation ever to go to war!
I personally was shot in the thigh with a .22 and came close to bleeding to death even with a tourniquet applied, as it clipped a major artery. That .22 hole only LOOKS small on PAPER!

Pretty deadly considering that the U.S. military uses a .22 cal weapon. The M16A2 and the M4 both shoot a Nato 5.56mm round which is actually a .223. This is a .22 cal bullet.

The 22 is the most underrated caliber there is and is deadly if shot in a vital, that being the head, chest, ect. It fires a projectile at about 2200 fps and has a range of up to a mile and a half and for that reason one most be sure of there target and beyond. I have gotten several wild hogs useing a 22 ruger pistol. Don't underetstimate its capability. Good luck.

Why? The military 5.56 mm is a .224 caliber bullet and its killed in Vietnam to Iraq. Robert Kennedy was killed and Reagan was almost killed with a .22 LR bullet. Shot placement is the key to anything. It is certainly not a 'toy round' in any caliber and should not be taken lightly.

It can kill a man as dead as any other bullet, but it may take longer than bigger calibers. I weigh 325 pounds, and was shot in the abdomen with a .22 pistol. I was angry enough to damage the shooter severely while having no serious injury myself. It was a flesh wound. My .500 magnum Bisley would surely kill even me with such a shot, for it will kill lions and kodiak bears that are bigger and stronger than I am.

weapon of choice for a lot of assassins. silenced and quiet even if not silenced. good trajectory hypersonic good penetration but not a lot of kinetic energy to knock down a person. it is truly a deadly caliber if struck in the vitals..
