I've had white flakes in my hair for months now and I don't know what they are. They never itch and they seem to like sticking to individual hair strands. When I use dandruff shampoo they always come back. I know they are not lice so are there any other kinds of bugs that can get into your hair? Please help...

Probably dry skin...
see a dermatologist... he may prescribe some sort of topical ointment you can use..

Another option is to use neutrogena T-Gel shampoo.

I went to cosmetology school and I don't ever remember anything about other kinds of bugs that would do that to you. I would say if it is all over your scalp and you can scratch your head with you fingernail and see it under your nail that it is probably just dry skin caused from the weather. It will probably go away in the springtime. Try a clarifying shampoo (a shampoo that strips hair of all build up products and cleans really good) for a couple weeks and that should help. Good Luck!

They are probably knits. Knits are lice eggs and they are small and just like you said - they stick to individual strands of hair. That's also probably why you can't get them out. Knits don't itch, but when they hatch, they do. You can try removal kits that you can buy at drug stores and pharmacys. My sister had them so I know. You have to put this stuff in your hair and use a special comb. Good Luck!

Its probably dandruff. Even though you use the shampoo you could have like a dandruff problem. A lot of people do. Ask your hair stylist for a good shampoo that you could use to keep it out better.

you need to have your hair stripped of the build up in it,use a cup of vinegar on it in the shower rubbing it into your scalp, keep your eyes closed rinse after a bit .do this once a month and watch the looks you get when your out.make sure you do use a shampoo after you've used the vinegar.

If you use a lot of products on your hair it could be from the build up.
