yes, the withdrawl effects are very bad, and they mention almost nothing about it on the giant folded information sheet. And they give sample packs to doctors all the time. It's almost criminal, are they trying to get us hooked to this stuff so we wont stop taking it? The FDA ought to make them put more info about witdrawl effects.

Effexor or venlafaxine is a type of antidepressant known as SSRI. Under NO circumstances should these drugs be stopped abruptly!!! You will start to experience withdrawal symptoms which are most unpleasant. Here are some side effect symtoms: agitation, anorexia, anxiety, confusion, coordination impaired, diarrhea, dizziness, dry mouth, dysphoric mood, fasciculation, fatigue, headaches, hypomania, insomnia, nausea, nervousness, nightmares, sensory disturbances (including shock-like electrical sensations), somnolence, sweating, tremor, vertigo, and vomiting. PLEASE consult with your prescribing doctor to obtain a realistic and safe discontinuation schedule. Usually Effexor is tapered by reducing the daily dose by 75 mg at 1 week intervals. In your case, if your tablets are scored, 37.5 mg. would be the next titration dosage. ONLY YOUR PRESCRIBING DOC CAN MAKE THE BEST RECOMMENDATIONS FOR YOU, GIVEN YOUR CIRCUMSTANCES. I sincerely hope that this info is helpful to you and others who consider just stopping any drug, not just the SSRIs, without first consulting and getting a titration plan in place. Best of luck to you!

I quit cold turkey, and it was not a good idea. Although I did not experience as extreme symptoms as some have, I did get dizzy spells and tinglies and irritability. It lasted about a week and a half for me I think.
Mood effecting drugs treating anxiety and depression should be weened from your system gradually. On the other hand, quitting cold turkey with cigarettes helped me a lot; because I had to face my cravings full in the face and reject them - it helped the quit stick.

I quit Paxil cold turkey and that was just about the worst week of my life. I also stopped taking Depakote at the same time. I got the same thing, cold sweat and then heat flashes; that high intensity squeal you hear in your brain when you move your eyes accompanied with those little brain shocks...
Interestingly, I quit smoking at the exact same time and felt ZERO effects of nicotine withdrawl. I guess the withdrawal effects of the Paxil overshadowed them...
This all preceeded a descent into the worst depression I've ever had, and am still working my way out of. Trying different meds now though.

Well, the best thing is reduce your dose slowly in accordance to your doctor's orders and expertise. But you may already be close to the end of the withdrawal...Talk with your doc and see what you might be able to do to offset the negative withdrawal symptoms...Just explain the side effects were more than you could handle...worse than the original problem that lead him/her to put you on effexor to begin with. Antidepressants have so many side effects. I have had to stop them "cold turkey" regardless of what the doc says cause I just couldn't stand it. But, that doesn't make it the right way to do it. The right way to do it is with the help and guidance of your doc. Good luck.

you have to wean yourself off of it girl. I think you could cause brain damage if you don't. I would hate for your speech to be all screwed up one day.... I just started my effexor xr today, i feel great.
