Actually, what you are wondering about asking is for a continuance of the court date. And no, you can't request a continuance simply because you have no money. That's what public defenders are for. Maybe you don't want to use a public defender, but they are there for people who have no money and, thus, the court will not grant a continuance on this basis. Your boyfriend MUST appear on the date scheduled. After that, once you tell the court you cannot afford an attorney, one will be appointed for you. Oh look! The Miranda Warning! Oh, yeah, sure, you can represent yourself in court, but you know the saying, "it's a fool who has himself for a client?" No one should be stupid enough to represent themselves on a charge like this.

He needs to appear in court on time on the right day, and tell the judge he has no money for a lawyer. The court may appoint one at no charge for him. They are called public defenders. You boyfriend ABSOLUTELY MUST appear when and where he is scheduled. It is not a problem if you can't afford a lawyer, but it is a CRIME if he does not show up.

Can't quite figure out what country the rest of these people are from but here in america you can represent yourself in the court of law. Bad news. you will have to go to the court clerks office and file a motion for continuation of the preceeding. this means that the prosecution gets to contest this and you may actually have to appear before the judge to explain the reason for the motion. If you can not afford a lawyer then you can go to the public defenders office and apply for public defense. they will have him fill out a application and get back to you, maybe on the spot. if he does not qualify then he can always enter his own name in as his defense, but once again the prosecution can contest this in the best interest of the accused and the judge will have to make a ruling based on compitencey. In the end you can do anything a lawyer can do, but you will have to go throught the clerks office to do it and it must be approved by the judge. oh and it will cost you 40 to 100 bucks per motion you enter, in most states.

The only one who can postpone a court date is the lawyer. Not having the money for the lawyer will just get you sued by the lawyer and thrown in jail. Better try to find some relatives to hit up for some serious cash, pawn your stuff, sell your car, whatever you have to do to make that court appearance.

On his Court date all he has to do is ask the Judge for a continuance of the prceedings as to give him enough time to hire an attorney and if you haven't had any prior continuances He should grant your request. F. Y. I., I would have an attorney the next time I appear or at best a list of attorneys you've contacted.
GOD BLESS/GOOD LUCK!!

i think you mean postpone. adjourn is what a courtroom does when they stop for a lunch break.
and he needs an attorney to postpone the proceedings. but if he is charged with a crime, he can always get a public defender.
also, you may want to question why you are dating a criminal. this may not be the greatest life decision you've ever made.
