By Jack: "I don't think Americans are "gun happy', I think that the availability of guns in the USA might be the problem. People keep guns because they're afraid. They can't deal with conflict without resorting to violence.
I think you'll find that if you meet up with the average American gun owner, he/she is usually a past victim of violence and has poor communication skills."
Thank you for glowing recommendation of my communication skills, you paragon of "tolerance", you! Your bigotry is no less ugly than that of the Klan, but is acceptable as long as it doesn't involve a "minority" group, eh?
Not all of us are knuckle-dragging troglodytes, given to blasting away in all directions at the first sign of trouble. The idea that gun owners own their guns because they're "afraid" is laughable, and doesn't stand up to examination. Essentially, we own guns in order to be FREE of fear, to be able to go and do as we please with the sure and certain knowledge that we can fight back, if necessary, when threatened. I have walked away from many a fight, having reasoned that the results would not be worth the effort or expense, and rightly so. I maintain a high level of Situational Awareness, as we call it in the Army, and I live by the dictum that the best way to win a fight is to not get in one. However, if there is no other alternative, and I am confronted with a person who offers me deadly violence, it becomes a question of him(or them) or me. I vote ME.
The availability of guns is not the problem. "Gun violence" is a term so ludicrous that it shocks me. It is as if, when one retires to bed, your guns sneak out of the safe and go on a "killing rampage", spray firing with sniper-like accuracy(another stupid liberal concept that is not borne out in actual fact.) in all directions at little children and small animals, until dawn, when they sneak back into the safe and pretend that nothing happened. Such is not the case, and cannot ever be; a firearm is only a tool, subject to the will of the user, for good or ill.
Education is the key, people! Why do people resort to violence and crime to make ends meet? Is it because of President Bush? The Republicans? Hitler? Rush Limbaugh? I don't think so. I think it's because they make a choice to take the "easy" way out, rather than apply themselves and work for something better. I came from poor people, and I'm no Rockefeller by any means, but I apply myself and do the best I can, and do my best to bring harm to no one. It was a CHOICE I made. The fact that others choose to make victims out of their fellow man indicates a CHOICE they make, not some evil right-wing conspiracy.
The fact that criminals use guns is merely incidental; the root of the problem is the factor of CHOICE. Taking guns away from them only means that they will resort to more brutal and grisly methods of killing. Have you ever seen the results of someone beaten to death with a piece of rebar? Or a baseball bat? How about those knife wounds? Even rocks and lumps of concrete are murder weapons, and I would definitely rather be shot than die a slow, painful death by any of the abovementioned methods.
My only question to those who would delete or edit the Second Amendment is this: Once this is done, how long will it be before the domino effect takes place, and ALL of our rights are deemed "unnecessary"? It's this slippery slope that I fear, and you liberals are careening to it like little Marxist lemmings, heedless of the damage you will do, sure in your own sense of political "correctness".
You know not what you do(or even why you do it).

Guns are not the problem. It is the irresponsible people or uncaring people behind them that are the problem. Guns are tools. Like other tools not everyone knows how to use a wrench, if you will, or the proper screwdriver.
I live a half mile away from a shooting range that holds an annual event for law enforcement. You should hear how much those fella's have a lack of control when shooting their automatics. But then they do have to learn the full capability of their firearms.
For me personally, I like to shoot targets. I think of it as the same kind of challenge a golfer finds in playing golf.

Who's gun happy ?
Is it because of a high murder rate in the US, that it make myself and anyone else who owns a gun(s), gun happy?
Additionally, can you refer me to your resources or a website to see what a "gun happy" person looks like....LOL..give me a break.
If you want to talk about death and how sad it is, then join the planned parenthood initiative, and help them stop the millions of babies being KILLED, legally by abortion, the statistic on US murders, cannot even get close to, or compared with, the amount of abortions done yearly in the US.

Because in the USA, the right to 'bear arms' has been enshrined in the constitution. Giving people the right to indiscriminately amass weapons resulted in the USA's flourishing 'gun culture'.

Not everyone that owns a gun is a past victim. I own guns, and it isn't because I'm afraid of anything. It is a right given to me. I am responsible with my guns. I'm just a red-blooded American who likes the ability to shoot out the center of a target with her Ruger P90 .45, or even my W&W recurve bow... Just the way I was raised I guess.

I have a question, Which country has the highest Murder rates per-capita? I think you will find it is not the US.
Also look more closely at murder statistics, I think you will find a very high percentage of those crimes were not Gun related.
A Gun is a tool, any tool can be used correctly or incorrectly. it is the Individual who is to blame for the end result not the tools he uses.

More people are killed by cars, should we ban them too? It's estimated medical mistakes kill as many as 100,000 Americans each year, should we just shut hospitals down?
I've got a house full of guns. They don't worry me at all.

Thomas Jefferson advocated the right to bare arms to protect one’s self from a tyrannical government.
I was anti-gun until Bush became president.
