if traceable to the source, assault. it would be a misdimeenor charge since it was not made in person. best case senario is if the state you're in has internet child protection laws there may be an article that would allow them to charge the offender as a felon. tough charge though since you can't prove who typed that e-mail unless someone comes forward as a witness. it is all circumstantail evidence at that piont.

If you can prove who sent these emails, which may be easy to do, then you need to have the records of the company that the email service was used by subpoenaed, and those records showing who the email address belonged to given to the court. As far as the punishment goes, well, let's see, the FCC will be involved since a type of communications was involved, that makes what was sent a Federal issue, and the threats themselves are very illegal. If you can prove who did it, the punishment should be quite severe, up to and including Federal prison time.

None because they are probably from Nigeria and our law does not extend to them.
Since you got those emails, the first thing to do is call the Police and the FBI, be interviewed, and let them get the info. The FBI would want to be involved since you received physical threats against a minor.

that could depend on a lot of things - if they plead out or go to trial, what the laws in your state are, if they have a prior record, what the judge ate for breakfast, all kinds of crap. there is no way of telling if what they did was even a crime, without knowing more details and what the laws are in your jurisdiction, much less what the sentence would be.
actually, though, if you look at the sex offender registries and the sentencing histories, if there is no physical assault and no priors, you're probably looking at probation.

Alert the yahoo web officials and let them go with the information that they E-Mailed to you, and let the authorities trace the E-Mail address, and make sure you file a complaint with your local law
enforcement/police. Sickos like this need a good lesson.

It was unlawful if this is what happened. In PA this charge would be considered a felony which is a serious charge. Depending on the person's past criminal history they could be looking at jail time.

The charge would probably be child endangerment or child pornography plus some more violations too if you show the police and your lawyers the full extent, they could do serious time. It is a felony even if they did not touch you or your family physically but caused you emotional distress.
