Staying in a hotel will cost you a fortune. Renting will require at least a one-year lease. The best thing, would be a one month sublet. You would pay a tenant to stay in his/her furnished apartment when s/he is away on vacation or studying abroad like you.

The average cost is 100% to 120% of the tenant's present rent depending on the included facilities (gas, electric, Internet, cable etc). I lived on 29th and Madison Avenue...not too far from you...and both medium and high priced housing is available in the area ($1,500 & up / month).

This may seem expensive, but the average hotel will cost you $250 a night. Another alternative is a youth hostel, but this is not conducive for a student at all.

The Craigslist web address below will link you to all the necessay resources to find the perfect sublet in your course area, at a reasonable price and for your dates needed. Search for "sublets / temporary" housing in the Manhattan neighborhoods of "Gramercy" or "Murrary Hill". Enjoy the puppies!

Check craigslist under 'sublets' or 'temporary housing'. My room mate and i usually sublet our apartment for about 800 dollars a month per room (two rooms) in Brooklyn. If you could find a sublet, it wouldn't cost you anything near what a hotel would. new yorkers often sublet, because we can't afford to let expensive apartments stay empty when we're away. You just might have to live with someone else.

I'm not from NYC and have never been there, but here's a quick mapquest search for hotels near where you'll be taking your course.
http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?searchtype=address&country=US&addtohistory=&searchtab=home&formtype=address&popflag=0&latitude=&longitude=&name=&phone=&level=&cat=hotel&address=455+2nd+ave&city=new+york&state=ny&zipcode=10010
Most or all of these hotels probably have websites, so you can google them to get rates, or just call the phone numbers that mapquest gives you. Hope this helps!

yeah i dont know your financial situation, but hotels are expensive, and you cant just rent an apt for a few weeks. look on www.craigslist.com and maybe you can find someone willing to sublet a room. it would be cheaper to stay outside the city, like queens or bklyn and take the subway in to manhattan.
