only after i am thru cleaning out my ears with my car keys and carefully inspecting what i find on each key- periodically wiping it off on my bib overalls

You're asking about removing a piece of food that's stuck in the gap and not using toothpick in place of daily flossing, right?! If so here is what I think.
In public both men and women should try to avoid doing it. But if you MUST do it, do it quickly and discreetly by using one hand to shield the mouth from public view. It's very common for people to do this in Chinese restaurants. Like spitting or picking your nose, it is bad mannerism if you just do it openly for everyone to see.

Does doing it while driving my truck count as "in public"? After a big ol slab of ribs a guy has just gotta use a toothpick. Heck darlin, they even give away those minty little tooth picks right up at the register. If you ever find yourself out here in the wild west I wouldn't mind if you used a toothpick after we had BBQ, as long as you slid on over in the middle of the truck seat real cozy like. YEEEEEHAAAAAAAW!!!!!

Man,woman or Alien,,to me cleaning your teeth in public is not only bad manners but very disgusting as well.Its tantamount to taking a dump and wiping your backside in full view of all and sundry.

It is no harm to do it in public, but does not look nice in front of others. were live people do it as normal thing,but from were I come from it is considered as a bad manners.

Some people do it where I live. I do not think it is half as disgusting as cleaning your nose with your finger, which is done in public in China.

Yes, when I eat where the trailer park people eat. Men mainly do it. It looks really bad for a woman to do it. Yes, it is uncooth and like picking you nose or other things.

No I don't and it is annoying when someone does this. Especially if they are really going at it. I find it nasty. They need to go to the bathroom.

yes i feel bad about it as a human being & also as a dentist .bcoz by using tooth picks one is increasing his disease.because tooth pick pushes the food particles deep into the tissue before removing them
