We are a non-profit trying to find a solution to the growing tire problem. The 3rd response was what we are looking for, but the numbers listed were no longer good. There are solutions in South Texas, but seem to be none in N Texas. Our county has a round-up and then has to pay to have them disposed of. We want tosave the county money by finding a free source of disposal where the tires are actually recycled into something useful, not just shredded or dumped.

I hate to ask what "relatively large amounts" are since I live in North Texas, but start by asking at your land fill. The Dallas Land Fill in Far South Dallas has a separate area where they collect tires. Whether it is free for large amounts is something I can not answer. If this is a cleanup situation of an area you have inherited or something like uncontrolled dumping, you might be able to get assistance from your county.

Try calling
Lone Star Tire Recycling:
602 Erskine St, Lubbock, TX 79403
(806) 749-8473
(806) 749-3800

If they won't do it, they can tell you who will. Lots of recyclers don't charge for tires, but you'll have to pay to have them taken there.
