Poodle or a Poodle mix because they are hypo-allergenic, If you absolutely hate poodles or mixed breeds you can try a wirehaired breed (like a wirehaired dachshund or Schnauzer) they tend to shed less but are not hypo-allergenic like Poodles :) Good Luck

Most people with Asthma or severe Allergy problems have a problem with furry pets. Not so, it seems, with the Chihuahua. Although there is no known medical evidence to support the idea that they can cure any disease, many Chihuahua Owners who suffer with Asthma or severe Allergies claim the dogs help. It has not been uncommon for people living in the Southwest to get a Chihuahua for a child or family member with Asthma or Allergy problems. The dogs sometimes lie near that person’s mouth while they are sleeping and later become ill. At the same time, the person involved would wake up feeling better. The idea was that the problem was transferred from the suffering human to the dog. Whether that part of the tale is true or not, it is a fact that Asthma and Allergy sufferers seem to do better with short or long haired Chihuahuas then with any other dog breed.

Poodle is the most hypoallergenic breed of dog for children and adults who suffer with allergies to dog fur and dander or for people with Asthma that is excabated by allergies. I have two poodles and my family has always bought poodles because of their hypoallergenic ability and there very cute dogs. This breed are very hypoallergenic and even better, they dont shed fur all over the place.
Mixed breed dog such as labradoodle which is a cross between a labradore and a poodle, may not be 100% effective at preventing allergies in some people because the breed is half poodle and half labradore. Same goes for every other mixed breed of dog that is crossed with a poodle. Because it is mixed breed you only get half of the protection against allergies.

None. If your child has severe asthma triggered by cats or dogs, then he will still react to *any* type of dog because the dandruff triggers the reaction. Bathing the dog regularly will help with the dandruff, but you can damage the dog's coat if you wash it too often.
You should wait until your child outgrows the asthma (if it goes away), or allow your child to interact with the type of dog you are interested in to see if the dog triggers an asthmatic reaction. [With epi-pen ready!] It may be the dog's saliva that triggers the reaction.
Otherwise, consider a non-furry pet, such as tropical fish or iguanas.

Poodles are most commonly known as being easier on allergies and other respiratory conditions. There are, however, other breeds that you could consider.
I found this list posted on the AKC website. It is a great source for any information you may wish to find about breeds that are recognized by the American Kennel Club.
* Bedlington Terrier
* Bichon Frise
* Chinese Crested
* Irish Water Spaniel
* Kerry Blue Terrier
* Maltese
* Poodles (Toy, Miniature or Standard)
* Portuguese Water Dog
* Schnauzer (Miniature, Standard or Giant)
* Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier
* Xoloitzcuintli
I would recommend, as you are looking for a pet for a child, that you research these breeds in greater depth to decide which one would be appropriate for your family's needs. [Example: Bedlington Terriers are beautiful dogs-- they kind of resemble sheep; but I have heard that they can be aggressive]. Good luck!!

No breed is hypoallergenic, but their are breeds that are less likely to cause reaction. Even though I believe that all kids should grow up with a puppy, you may be better off not getting a puppy (especially if your child has allergy-induced asthma). I think that it would be much harder on a child to get a puppy and then have to have it taken away, than to never have one at all. If you really want a puppy I would go with a Chinese Crested, Maltese, or Yorkie.

I will tell you from experience that yes there is one dog that is considered to be hypoallergenic. It is the Bichone Frise. I have two girls that suffer from extreme allergies and one has asthma, owning the Bichone never gave either one of them any problems. We had her for 15 years and never once were either of the girls affected by her hair or anything else. Good luck in finding the one that fits you but I can say our Bichone was one of the best dogs we ever had, they are very sweet and loving and get along with almost anyone Good luck!!!!!

The child needs human company. Dogs are not safe company. Let the child mix with other children and grow normally. Take precautions for asthma.

A mini. schnauzer. They dont shed and they are good with kids when raised around them. They are also a good family dog. They enjoy being a part of the family on outings or just lazy sunday times. They are very cuddly and always out for attention. I have one and she is a very good dog. Very smart too so you can easily train. Some will say that they need to be groomed alot but it isnt necessary. I let mine grow her hair out and shes just as cute. She is also a good guard dog and is wary of strangers. I would check into it with your vet and call some local breeders.
