I Gave UP!! My Damn Dog's Wearing Diapers Now?

Question

I got a pomeranian puppy when she was 8 weeks old. Now, she is nearly 4 mos. I've paper trained her, and she's got about four piss rags around the house that she can defecate on, and she knows that damn well, because she sh.ts and pisses on them - in addition to the off-limit area! I've done EVERYTHING I could, and she still craps all over. I got sick of her snotty attitude problem, so I got a shaving razor, shaved her butt area and purchased some dog-diapers (even I was surprised those were available) and put her in them! I change them before I go to bed, and when I wake up. I shaved part of her, so it'd be easy to clean her a$s if sh.t smeared back there. Am I being a little too impatient? I don't know what to do! She's hopeless, and I don't know if I'm doing the right thing.

^ That is, I TRIED to paper train her, but if she's going to be a jerk and crap on the floor just to spite me, then this will teach her a lesson about manners.

To whoever said "stop beating your dog", well, I don't hit animals...

Yes...you're being too impatient. She's only 16 weeks old and she's still a baby with a very small bladder and very little control. One thing you haven't done is kennel (crate) trained her. Your home is an awful big place to her and she doesn't know the difference yet between a different room and outside.

Just like an infant, your puppy needs constant supervision. By kennel training her, she has her own "room" and is unlikely to deface it when given ample opportunity to use the outdoors. It also gives you control over where she is and when.

My advise is to purchase a kennel or crate as some call them. It should be large enough for her to be comfortable, but not big enough that she has her own "bathroom". When you are not home or unable to give her your undivided attention, she should be in her "room". At her age, she should be given the opportunity to potty at intervals of no longer than every 2 hours, either on the paper or outside.

GET RID OF THE PISS RAGS!! She should have one designated area to do her business and she should be taken to that same area EVERY time! Be consistent and be patient. If she is out of her kennel and you notice her sniffing around, take her to her area, as that is a sign of impending potties.

Get rid of the diaper and be consistent with the housebreaking. She'll get the idea in no time.

My best advice is this: try keeping her in a dog crate at night w/o diaper. If you get her a crate that's small enough without too much extra space, then she should whine to be let out to potty. And when she does go out and potty in your yard then praise her for being such a good girl. Maybe even giving her a treat. And ONLY give her this treat when she does well. Maybe try the crate during the day. And the praise for when she does well is very important. And everytime she makes a mistake in your home then make a big deal of it too her. Let her know that she's really screwed up! Plus, you must pay attention to her actions. Take her out every 30 minutes if you have too, but don't give her an opportunity to pee/poop in your house. Figure out when she normally has bowel movements, etc. and get her outside beforehand. Good luck and I'm sending thoughts of patience your way. :)
P.S. Potty training some dogs will take a lot of time, but when it's all done, then of course it's worth it!

A lot of good answers here...listen to them. She is still a puppy and needs time to learn. Her bladder is not fully developed to hold the urine, and her bowels are the same way. You need to take her out to do her business very often. Every hour if you have to to teach her to go outside. Crating her sounds like the best idea. Crate size is important..big enough for her to comfortably lie down and stand up, but not so big as she has room to potty at one end and sleep at the other. Positive reinforcement when she goes outside..give her a treat and do a "happy potty dance" let her know she did good and you are happy with her. Almost ignore the accidents, but if you have to be angry, be angry at what she has done, not the dog. Let her know you are upset and angry at what she has done. Don't let her have the run of the house, get some baby gates and confine her to a smaller area.
You are definately being too impatient, give her some time to learn and for her organs to grow. And you are also definately not doing the right thing for your dog. If you are that impatient, you never should have gotten a puppy. You would have been better off getting an already trained dog, or never should have gotten a dog in the first place. I really hope when you speak about "rags" you really mean wee-wee pads that are specificaly made for puppies/dogs to do their business on. After all you did get doggie diapers. They are made for older dogs that can not control their bodily functions any more, not young puppies that their owner is just to lazy to train. So get up off your butt and take her out often, confine her to a crate at night, and confine her to a designated area during the day with wee wee pads. Feed her in the morning and take the water up early evening. And take her out for plenty of walks so she has the opportunity to learn that outside is where to go.
One final note...make sure you clean completely and thoroughly the areas where she has used in your house as a bathroom. Use an enzyme cleaner to get her scent out completely. It will probably take a number of applications to get her scent out completely, but it will. And it will no longer be a reminder to her that it was alright to go there!!
So if you are serious about wanting help, listen to what most of the people here have said...if you are not willing to work with your dog to train her, then find a shelter and give her up..that is the humane thing to do. Someone who is willing to work with her and will love her the right way won't have a problem training her. After all, dogs just want their humans to be happy.

I consider that men and women (liberals and conservatives) get upset once they believe that their Q&A's are reported they usually want to lash out. For probably the most part, i do not think that YA is biased either way. Nonetheless, "some" of these working for YA are. I've had answers mentioned that I've appealed. On the primary are attempting it was once denied. On the 2d try, it used to be permitted. Still, total i don't think that YA is biased. I'll say that I consider that Yahoo information is biased closer to liberals. I learn their news and consider that it is obviously one-sided. It doesn't trouble me so much although on the grounds that i like studying special views to get a balance.

You are not training her correctly then. All dogs can be paper trained. But why are you using rags?? How can she tell the difference between a rag here and clothes there?
Seek a trainers help. Paper training is one of the easiest things to do, and your extreme response makes me thing you know nothing about training a dog.
Besides- if you are not home enough /too lazy to let the dog outside to go naturally-you should consider selling her.

Your house-breaking method backfired and you actually trained her to do her business in your house, so she's doing exactly what you trained her to do. By now her scent is all over the house, because you made it that way by putting those rags around the house. You never showed her that there was ONE place to go and she is a very confused little puppy. Try to think about it from her point of view.

The diapers will do for now to keep your sanity, but you HAVE to go back to square one and start over with the right kind of house-breaking method.

Been down this road. Relax. She is still to young to have it totally under control. 6 months or sometimes longer. You need to have one spot where she should go. You said she has about 4 pee rags aroung the house. Your confussing her. One area. when she pees or poos take her to it and say no, do not yell. wipe it up and place the paper towel on the newpaper where you want her to go. let her sniff it and tell her good. and praise her. after a while she'll know to go there to please you. that's all dogs what to do is please you and love you. Getting fustratied with her will just make her more confussed. It takes a lot of training. More on our part. We expect them to do what we want when we want remember she's just a baby. so relax and enjoy her thats what you got her for. good luck to you.

well dogs that small tend to have to go the bathroom all the time first thing u do is feed your dog on schedule dont leave food out all day try to keep the dog gated in a small area. My dog was potty trained 2 weeks after I got her and she was only 5 weeks old but then again some dogs are smarter then others.

You aren't teaching her anything and yes, you are being impatient. Remember a puppy does not have complete control of themselves until they are about six months old. She is still a baby, give her a chance and keep trying but STOP beating on her. It will not work.
If you don't like her "snotty attitude" then you don't need her. A pom is an extrovert with a vivacious spirit.

First of all, a diaper is not going to help at all. Most dogs are not fully potty trained until they are 6 months old, some not until they are a year old. so chill out. your dog does not deserve that. i would recommend some basic obedience classes. they really help with potty training and will give you some great tips
