How would you respond to your mother or mother-in-law if they told you they didn't like the name you chose for your baby?

I would say, " I respect your opinion but I am the Mother and I make that decision on his name." "You named your children, now it's my turn to name mine whatever I please."

That depends on what her reasons are for commenting.

1. Is the name so idioticly cruel & unusual to the child that it will be ridiculed for years in school? Then think really hard about whether the name is your vanity/ego versus the child's well being?

2. Does the name have bad family karma? Think a little about it and discuss with husband.

3. She's a control freak. Then you must enlist the help of your spouse to stop being controlled.

i wouldn't care if my mother or mother-in-law didn't like the name i choose for my baby as long as i like it...you really shouldn't about what they like it's your baby...but if it seems like everybody dislikes the name then that's a different situation, maybe the name yo chose could be really different....but if it's just your mother or in law so what ...

They won't care what the name is once their beautiful grandchild arrives!! So, don't let it worry you and just name the child whatever you and your partner have chosen. My mother didn't like the name I had picked for my daughter, but I named her it anyway and she is the absolute apple of her Nanny's eye!!

Next time, I'm not going to tell anyone the name we have chosen, they will just have to wait until bub arrives!! People feel less inclined to comment this way :)

I wanted my daughter to be named after my great-grandmother June... I really looked up to her, so this is what I wanted it to be, and my mom kept trying to tell me it should be my middle name Nichole instead. She did everything she could to try to talk me into it.. and yes I like my middle name, but I really truly felt I wanted it to be June instead... so I ended up telling my mom, this is my baby, and this is what I wish to name her like it or not. I ended up having a boy. lol But still, if I ever do have a girl some day, her middle name will be after my great-grandmother June (she passed away a few months ago, and I'm glad I was able to tell her this before she passed away.)

So do what I did, it's your baby, they had their turn with their own... now it's up to you and your husband. They need to get over it and respect your decision! Goodluck!

Tell them that it is your child and you will name the baby whatever you want to name the baby. They are just the grandmothers

Tell them that you are sorry that they dont approve of the name but that is the name that you have chosen and want for your CHILD. And, they really have no say.
