They are mostly lazy. A few might be honestly in need of assistance, but most are just lazy and think they have better things to do.

Could be because:
1. Some people are lazy and some people want to help sort things out
2. Some people don't have someone to ask for solutions for their problems and some people have ready answers for them
3. Some people are industrious but can't find time to do their own research and some people aren't busy enough to lend a helping hand.
4. Some people don't like to come out of their houses because of the hassles and some people can be contacted to help 'on-line'
5. Some people ask too clever questions and some people are challenged to answer these questions
6. Some people ask too unimportant questions and some people are willing to share their not so important answers.
7. Some people are not honest in their questions and some people do not care whether it was an honest question or not.
8. Some people hide their intentions and some people, although they know, just let it go for the sake of helping
9. Some people have real needs and some people can really help
10, Some people just want to make a fool of others and some people believe that it won't hurt them to answer a fool's question.

The list of reasons is long but I hope that you'll browse over the questions at random to see that your concern could be less than 5% which shows that 95% of those who ask are for real (from my point of view).

If the question involves etiquette, then this is the right place to ask it. I can't imagine anyone having homework in etiquette, unless they were pretty rude in school and got a special assignment to learn something. In that case, we're here to set them straight. They could also read Miss Manners or Dear Abby and pick up a few tips. By the way, "wanting you to do your homework for them" is something we could discuss in the linguistics section. It really should be "do THEIR homework for them.

I only done that a few times but it was SAT math questions and I was totally lost and there was no one around who could help me so I posted my questions here, I'm thinking maybe most of those who post this kind of questions have the same kind of problem, because I don't think posting the question here will be any easier than sitting down and trying to solve it by themselves.

I think that in many cases, the askers really are frustrated with their homework and are reaching out to Yahoo! Answers in desperation. But it seems that others are just hoping that you will give them all the ideas so they won't have to do the work on their own. In either case, it's not appropriate to give them work that they can turn in as their own.
