Who told you that?????? I lived inAustralia for 20 years and now I am living here in California for 14 years, I never heard such a thing. You are very wrong, if anything I think it is the other way around.
Americans have high regards for the Australians, they love their acceents, anything Australian they will buy. If you look at the amount of tourist that visit Australia, you will find that the highest number are Americans.

I didn't know they did think that! My host father during a year of student exchange in the US did think that Australia was about the same size as the state of Texas. So maybe he thought we were such a small country that we would have less advantages or something. Most Americans I've met liked Aussies though, in a genuine way.

I think that is crazy! I am sorry if you have ever felt that, but as a "Yank" with lots of Aussie friends (and former Tour Manager for Contiki Holidays) I cannot imagine this really being accurate! Perhaps you just met a couple of jerky people. You know we are a country of @300 million so if you meet a few jerkies, don't let them throw you. We love Aussies (well- every group have their jerkies- here, there, everywhere). Generally, Americans think of Aussies as people who value the sames sorts of lifestyles of a "newer" country with a strong, vibrant diverse culture and peoples.

Where'd you get that idea? American culture thinks that EVERYBODY is incompetent and that they are the best in everything. So try not to feel too left out.
