Bat, Gremlin and Wombat don't really translate well into German. One animal that I always think of is the squirrel. In WW2, in order to ensure that Allied soldiers were not dressed as spies in German uniforms, the Germans would sometimes have individuals at checkpoints say the word "Eichhörnchen", which is a squirrel. My Opa(Grandfather), who served for the German Army (unwillingly) in WW2 told me this story. It is a very difficult word to pronounce unless your are native. If you can, speak to a German native and ask them how to pronounce the word. For short, maybe you use "Ike". Good luck.

batte (is bat in French), and gremlin and wombat are just gremlin and wombat in French.
So you might as well give your dog an english name if you are planning on giving him something weird.
