It's a shame as here in the UK it's the first choice chemotherapy for bowel cancer. It has been shown to be so effective that in some of the liver resections this year, there has been complete regression of the tumour. This is in 4 cases out of 107 liver resections, with significant regression in many others.

Although the drug is not funded by OHIP in Ontario, you can get full funding depending on income. Also alot of hospitals include the treatment in their budget. I am a 41 year old female diagnosed with Advanced Colon Cancer, Jan 2006. I was on Oxali and Avastin (another drug not funded in Ontario). I did not have to pay for Oxali, but Avastin cost me $1500/treatment every two weeks. Because of the chemotherapy, I am now able to have the tumours in my liver removed - something that was not an option last year.

Looks like the drug's manufacturer either hasn't done all the homework to get funding approved or hasn't greased the right palms
