My mom is an addict. To alcohol, and pretty much any drug she can get her hands on. Because of this, she has also turned into a compulsive liar. Tonight, I found out that she has stolen an entire bottle of oxycodone from me, that I didn't even know I had because she went and filled several prescriptions for me, after I had my wisdom tooth extraction. I would love SO much to turn her in, and teach her a lesson that she will hopefully never forget. The only thing I am worried about is my younger sister. Children's Aid has been involved with my family and I have been put into countless group homes throughout most of my childhood. I wouldn't wish this upon anyone, and for my sister, to me this is not an option. If I reported to the police that my mom has been stealing my prescriptions, will children's aid be notified? Also...I just finished having it out with her, yelled at her until I could no longer speak...but now that I am calm and collected, what could I say to get through to her?

You are facing something no child should have to do, and you are facing with amazing maturity. Your compassion for your younger sister is commendable. So whatever your mom may be, at least she has produced a winner in you.
There isn't anything you can do for your mom. An addict can't be helped against their will, and as you already know, they will do anything to get their drug of choice, or whatever substitute they can find.
You don't say how old you are so it's hard to know whether you could provide a home for your sister or not. You don't mention your dad -- is he still in the picture or is it just your mom, your sister and yourself? Is there another family member, an aunt or someone, that you could talk to? Or could you talk to a counsellor at either Children's Aid or someone who could fill you in on what your possible options might be?
I wish I could give you a big hug right now, because i think you need one. So consider yourself hugged, and also given a pat on the back because you sound like a truly good person.

Tell her to get into rehab because it isnt fair for you or your sister to live with an addict & that if she doesnt do this,,then you are telling your school councilor. She will get very mad but you & your sister really deserve a normal life.Your Mom can fix her problem & then be a family that can be together as you all should be.It will be hard at first but she will thank you in the end once she is better.Dont listen to her yelling at you,,its the addiction talking.Good luck,,my heart goes out to you & your sister.

Your mom can't be a mom if she's being controlled by an addiction. Get help so your sister doesn't have to suffer.
