My grandfather was one of the survivors of the U.S.S. Arizona which was sunk at Pearl Harbor. On the survivor list, he is listed as a "sea1c". Thanks for your help!

Thanks everyone. I imagine it IS an older system of ranks. It WAS 65 years ago. I thought I had heard somewhere that it was Seaman First Class. Thanks for the info!!

That if from an old rank system used by the Navy before it was reorganize and made more efficient. SEA1C is Seaman 1st Class.

I'm pretty sure there's no such thing as Seaman First Class. I'm not sure though, check out my source.
