No not too big but it also depends on the horse, like a shetland pony is out of the question, and you don't need a short horse because you are short. Diet and exercise is still better for losing weight, cutback or quit teh candy and soda, eat fresh fruit and vegetables, in fact there is a chemically balanced diet most hospital dieticians post on their website that is calculated to help you lose weight and you only have to follow it every other day, because it gives your body the things it needs to help you metabolize the food better. And sleep is very important, lack of sleep causes you to gain weight. A good brisk 15 minute walk or aeorobic exercise every day is better than one or two hours a week at the gym. I'm not knocking horse riding, sounds like a good idea (if nothing else a good excuse to ride). Have fun, take good care of the horse and he/she will take good care of you.

no, it could be harmful if the animal has a sway back issue, but a normal healthy horse shoul have no problem with your weight. I wouldnt want to ride double unless the other is 100 or less.
Also, you should pace yourself and the animal. Ride for an hour, then next time, 115, then 130 and so on. Dont go for a 5 hour ride your first time out.
make sure the horse is a sturdy durable breed. A paint or a pinto is prob not the smartest animal in retrospect to strength.
